Welcome to the heartbreak hotel, friends. This year, tons of celebrity couples decided to call it quits. Twenty-year marriages were abruptly ended, newly engaged couples called off their courtships for good, and beloved costars with electric chemistry just couldn’t make it work.

No matter why they arrived at Splitsville, we wish all of these celebs the best on their continued quest for true love. Here are the biggest breakups of 2021.

Tiffany Haddish and Common

It’s officially over for Tiffany Haddish and Common.

The comedian and the actor have ended their relationship for good, according to People. After confirming their romance in 2020, it seems as if distance played a major part in their breakup.

“They are never in the same city together and both of them are just too busy for a serious relationship,” a source revealed. Though they started dating in 2020, the pair actually met while filming the 2019 film The Kitchen.

Tayshia Adams and Zac Clark

Yet another Bachelorette engagement has come to an end in 2021, it seems. Tayshia’s rep confirmed the recent breakup rumors were true, telling People, “Tayshia Adams and Zac Clark are no longer a couple.” So what went wrong this time?

According to various sources, scheduling conflicts kept them apart all the time, but there was more to their breakup than that. Reportedly, these reality show darlings discovered that they’re “two very different people,” with one source calling them “a total mismatch.” In the end, they just didn’t foresee making it to the altar as a realistic goal.

Stevie J. & Faith Evans

In early November, hitmaker Stevie J. filed a petition for divorce from the singer/songwriter. The couple had been married for roughly three years. Thus far, neither of their reps have commented on the separation. And it’s not clear if there’s a prenup in place.

Back in 2016, the “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” star confessed his true feelings for Faith. The two had claimed they were “just friends” for years. While we still don’t know why they split, rumors of infidelity and abuse have been swirling for some time.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello

These singing sweethearts confirmed they were officially dating back in 2019. Flash forward to 2021, it seems their love story has come to an end. In a joint statement, Mendes and Cabello announced they mutually decided to end their relationship, adding “we will continue to be best friends.”

For now, these exes are remaining hush-hush about why they broke up.

Kaia Gerber and Jacob Elordi

In May 2021, Kaia opened up about her relationship with Jacob, telling Vogue, “Being able to be with someone I trust, where we don’t want anything from each other, having a safe, steady relationship like that, has really opened my eyes to the possibilities of love and what it feels like to love without conditions,” adding, “Lust is touching other people or wanting them, but love is really seeing someone.” But sadly, things didn’t work out.

After one year of dating, these two have called it quits. As noted by E! News, the news of their breakup comes just two months after the supermodel and Euphoria actor made their red carpet debut as a couple.

Ty Herndon & Matt Collum

On Instagram, the country singer announced he and his boyfriend Collum have decided to go their separate ways “after 11 beautiful years together.” While they’re no longer an item, the “What Matters Most” singer says they’re still “committed to remaining lifelong friends.”

He continued, “The Bible tells us that for everything there is a season. We both are looking forward to this next season of our lives with hope, optimism, and love.”

Jaime King & Sennett Devermont

Jaime King & Sennett Devermont were first romantically linked in December 2020. However, they didn’t make things Instagram official until August 2021. And now, the Black Summer actress and her entrepreneur/activist beau have officially called it quits.

Right now, we don’t know why their blossoming love story suddenly came to an end, but the Hart of Dixie alum remains in the middle of a divorce battle with her estranged husband, Kyle Newman. So perhaps bad timing is partially to blame.

Liam Payne and Maya Henry

After announcing his engagement to girlfriend Maya Henry, the former One Direction singer revealed he’s single and he’s “just not very good at relationships.” Payne opened up about the breakup on a podcast, per E!, “I feel like more than anything at this point, I’m more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people.”

“And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships, I feel at this point. I’m just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else. And I feel like that’s where I got to in my last relationship. I just wasn’t giving a very good version of me anymore, that I didn’t appreciate and I didn’t like being,” Liam explained.

Katie Holmes and Emilio Vitolo Jr.

After going public in 2020, the Dawson’s Creek star ended her relationship with Emilio Vitolo Jr. after spending some time apart. A source told People, “It was amazing while it lasted, but they are at very different places in life. Emilio has no hard feelings.”

Reportedly, they’re still friends.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

After almost 7 years of marriage, Kimye decided it was best to part ways. Kim was the one to officially file for divorce.

While the end of their marriage certainly played out dramatically in the public eye, Kim and Kanye’s lawyers said the divorce itself was “as amicable as it could get,” all things considered.

Scott Disick and Amelia Hamlin

After about a year together, these two have reportedly thrown in the towel. The news of their breakup surfaced shortly after Disick’s alleged ongoing interest in his former girlfriend, Kourtney Kardashian. Sources say he was a little too eager to know what the mother of his children was doing and who she was dating.

Back in September, Page Six reported that Disick and Hamlin had decided to take a break. Going by the tone of Hamlin’s gloomy and seemingly grieving Instagram posts, it quickly became clear that it was more of a breakup than a break.

Elon Musk and Grimes

Grimes and Elon Musk split in September. They’d been married since 2018. Allegedly, their conflicting schedules did them in, with Musk primarily in Texas and Grimes based in LA.

The Tesla CEO says he and the musician “see each other frequently and are on great terms.” They continue to amicably co-parent their son, X Æ A-Xii.

Taryn Manning and Anne Cline

In late August, Taryn Manning called off her three-month engagement to Anne Cline. Reportedly, the Orange Is The New Black alum felt pressure to accept Cline’s extremely public (and filmed) proposal.

Regardless of what officially caused the breakup, Manning may already be dating again. So it’s safe to assume they’re trying to move on.

Carmelo and La La Anthony

In June, La La Anthony filed for divorce from her husband Carmelo Anthony after 11 years of marriage. Per TMZ, sources closest to the couple claim they’ve actually been quietly separated for a while now.

Regardless of why it didn’t work out between them, sources say the decision to part ways was mutual and these exes will remain good friends.

Trevor Noah and Minka Kelly

According to a source for PeopleThe Daily Show host and the actress decided to split after dating for less than a year. The pair were first rumored to be much more than friends back in August 2020.

Frankly, we may never learn why they didn’t work out. Considering neither Noah nor Kelly officially confirmed the relationship publicly, I doubt they’ll be talking about the breakup.

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik

Earlier this year, the former One Direction singer and the model called it quits after an alleged altercation with Hadid’s mother.

But the on-again, off-again couple of about six years were rumored to have a “super-toxic relationship” from the start. While these co-parents have broken up before, this time seems way more official.

Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds and Nicole Pantenburg

Babyface and the actress called it quits after almost seven years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.

In July, the longtime happy couple confirmed they were splitting up “with much sadness”, adding, “we have respect for one another and share eternal love for our daughter and her well-being.”

Katie Thurston and Blake Moynes

Just three months after getting engaged on national television, Katie Thurston and Blake Moynes announced their breakup in October 2021.

On Instagram, Katie implied the split was mutual, saying they realized they weren’t “compatible as life partners” and called severing ties “the most caring choice” for both parties.

Scooter Braun and Yael Cohen

It appears these two were another power couple to get the seven-year itch. The big-time record exec and multifaceted businesswoman started dating in 2013 and share three kids together.

But it may not be over just yet. Reportedly, the couple is looking at their separation as more of “a break” for now.

John Mulaney and Annamarie Tendler

Six years after tying the knot, the comedian and his wife decided to split up. “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage,” Tendler shared in a statement from her rep. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

Lindsey Buckingham and Kristen Messner

After 21 years together, the former Fleetwood Mac singer and guitarist’s wife filed for divorce. For over two decades, the pair raised three children, William, 22, Leelee, 21, and Stella, 17. Custody details are still being decided.

Kaley Cuoco and Karl Cook

Karl Cook and Kaley Cuoco are moving on after three years of marriage.

In a joint statement from the now-exes, Cook and Cuoco said, “Despite a deep love and respect for one another, we have realized that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions,” adding, “we’d prefer to keep this aspect of our personal life private, we wanted to be forthcoming in our truth together. There is no anger or animosity, quite the contrary.”

Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish

After ten years together, Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish filed for divorce. Bosworth announced their decision in a lengthy and beautifully sad Instagram post (that you should absolutely read.)

Also, they have the opposite of hard feelings for each other, it seems. “We have never been so enamored and deeply grateful for one another as we do in this decision to separate,” Bosworth explained.

Blair Underwood and Desiree DaCosta

After 27 years of marriage, Underwood and DaCosta announced their decision to separate.

“After a tremendous amount of thought, prayer & work on ourselves individually & collectively, we have come to the conclusion to end our marriage that began 27 years ago,” adding, “It has truly been a beautiful journey.”

Matthew Perry and Molly Hurwitz

“Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them,” the Friends star explained.

The 50-year-old actor and the 29-year-old literary manager began dating in 2018. They became engaged two years later, but it seems it wasn’t meant to be.

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas

After getting together on the set of Deep Water in January, De Armas and Affleck broke up at the beginning of 2021. Neither party has openly discussed why things didn’t work out.

But this next breakup confirmed that timing is truly everything.

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez

In a joint statement, J-Lo and A-rod announced, “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so.” Without going into details, the pair confirmed their split in April.

However, rumors were swirling that their relationship had been on the rocks for many months. Once Lopez was fully single, she rekindled a romance with a newly single Ben Affleck. As of now, round 2 for Bennifer looks to be getting serious.

Clare Crawley and Dale Moss

On The Bachelorette, Clare Crawley declared she’d found her husband the moment she laid eyes on Dale Moss. Both of them called it a case of love at first sight.

But after six months, they suddenly announced their decision to break up. In recent months, however, these two have been spending time together once again. They both claim they aren’t back on, but they are “working on things.”

Elliot Page and Emma Portner

Following a trial separation, The Juno star filed for divorce from the choreographer back in January 2020, TMZ reports. The once-happy couple had a secret wedding back in January 2018.

They’ve remained private throughout their relationship and their breakup. So we may never know the full story with this one.

Zoë Kravitz and Karl Glusman

After a little over four years of marriage, Zoë Kravitz and Karl Glusman split up. According to official court documents, Kravitz was the one who filed for divorce at the very end of 2020, but the unhappy news didn’t make its rounds until 2021.

Rebel Wilson and Jacob Busch

Like oh so many quarantine couples, these two got together right before the start of the pandemic. By early 2021, they’d already called it quits. It’s not clear what happened, but Wilson has since taken down all of their lovey-dovey photos on social media.

Wilson also announced the split via Instagram, cleverly captioning one post, “single-girl-heading-to-Super-Bowl!”

Bill and Melinda Gates

Bill and Melinda officially divorced in August of 2021. They’d been married since 1994. The billionaire pair were also long-term business partners.

There are many rumors regarding what went wrong, but it’s believed tension within their professional relationship caused issues within their personal one.

Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline

John B Sarah Cameron Outer Banks

After just one year of dating, these cutesie costars have broken up IRL. Details remain hush-hush for now, but their fans are currently dying to know…is the future of Outer Banks in jeopardy?
