Under massive pressure, Jamie Spears has announced that he will step down from Britney’s conservatorship.

Filed Thursday with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Spears’ decision contradicts his attorney’s statement saying that there were “no actual grounds for suspending or removing” him. The attorney goes on to state that “it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears’ best interests.”

The filing goes on to say that while they do not agree on the reasons for the petition of his removal, “Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator.”

Britney’s Lawyer Responds

Britney’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, responded with a statement, saying that they “are pleased that Mr. Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed. it is vindication for Britney.”

However, Rosengart confirmed their fight is not finished. “We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter’s estate, and I look forward to taking Mr. Spears’s sworn deposition in the near future.”

Britney’s father had been her co-conservator since 2008 and then became her sole conservator in 2019.

PopTonic will update this story as it develops.

Original Story

Britney Spears’ father is now claiming that his daughter’s personal conservator told him that Britney is “mentally sick” and could be subject to involuntary psychiatric hospitalization.

But here’s the thing: that personal conservator, Jodi Montgomery, is denying these claims.

Jodi Montgomery is the conservator appointed to oversee Britney’s personal needs. She had been appointed as a temporary conservator back in 2019 when Jamie Spears had requested to “temporarily relinquish the powers of conservatorship.

These days, while dad Jamie is in charge of managing Britney’s estate and making financial decisions, Jodi remains in charge of Britney’s person. She manages all personal and medical decisions for the pop star.

Jamie Spears Claims Daughter Britney Spears Is “Mentally Sick”

The claim came just one day after Britney’s attorney filed a petition to expedite a hearing on suspending Jamie from the conservatorship. Jamie claimed in a legal filing that he can’t be removed because his daughter is “mentally sick.”

In the filing, obtained by Variety, Jamie alleges that Jodi Montgomery expressed serious concern over the pop superstar’s mental health.

According to him, Jodi called him on July 9th, concerned over Britney’s behavior and mental health. He also claims Jodi believes Britney may need to be placed under a 5150 psychiatric hold.

In California, a 5150 hold is an involuntary psychiatric detainment for adults experiencing a mental health crisis.

“During our call, Ms. Montgomery sounded very distraught and expressed how concerned she was about my daughter’s recent behavior and overall mental health,” Jamie says in the new court docs. “Ms. Montgomery explained that my daughter was not timely or properly taking her medications, was not listening to the recommendations of her medical team and refused to even see some of her doctors.”

In the docs, he said he sensed that his daughter was “spiraling out of control.”

The court filings argue that Jamie has “dutifully and faithfully served as the conservator of his daughter’s estate.”

They also claim his “sole motivation has been his unconditional love for his daughter and a fierce desire to protect her from those trying to take advantage of her.”

Jodi Montgomery Fires Back at Jamie Spears’ Claims

Yeah, that claim by Daddy Spears? Jodi Montgomery isn’t here for it.

In a statement issued from her lawyer, Lauriann Wright, Jodi slams Jamie’s version of events to the ground. Those claims, she says, are just his way of trying to “gain some sort of tactical advantage in the pending proceedings to remove him as conservator.”

The statement “implores Mr. Spears to stop the attacks.”

It also notes that “the health, well-being and best interests of Britney Spears” are what should be the focus.

“Jamie Spears continuing to serve as her Conservator instead of a neutral professional fiduciary is having a serious impact on Ms. Spears’ mental health.”

Statement from Jodi Montgomery

“Ms. Montgomery does have concerns about Ms. Spears’ ‘recent behavior and overall mental health,’” the response states. “Due to medical privacy, Ms. Montgomery cannot go into those concerns with any further detail except to say that having her father Jamie Spears continuing to serve as her Conservator instead of a neutral professional fiduciary is having a serious impact on Ms. Spears’ mental health.”

Jodi also repeatedly questioned Jamie Spears’ honesty in the filing. For instance, she denied Jamie’s claim that she had committed Britney to “a facility” in 2019. Not only did she say it was untrue, but that the pop star’s admittance to a facility was done at the request of her psychiatrist and Jamie himself.

But Jodi has one more thing to tell dad Jamie Spears: “It is in Ms. Spears’ best interests that her father step down as her Conservator, so he can go back to just being Ms. Spears’ father, and working on a healthy, supportive father-daughter relationship.”
