Britney Spears is finally a free woman.
After years of fighting to end her conservatorship, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny announced its official termination on Friday, November 12.
Cue the fireworks!
While the decision was incredibly emotional for the pop star, it was also a major moment for Britney’s countless fans who’ve wanted to see her free for a long time.
#FreeBritney Is Finally Official
Though Britney did not attend the hearing to end her conservatorship, her attorney Matthew Rosengart was present.
“Effective today, the conservatorship of Britney Jean Spears, the person and the estate is hereby terminated,” Judge Penny said at the hearing, according to E! News.

Both parties consented to the judge’s decision, but the changeover of finances from her conservatorship to her estate will take place in a hearing on December 8.
“What that means is we have set up a financial safety net for Britney, in terms of a new trust. All of the assets that are outside of the existing trust will be transferred by the existing conservator of the estate… into that trust,” Rosengart explained.
“I’m so proud of her. I thank her. I thank her for her courage and voice and power… We believe it was the right result.”
Britney Thanked Her Fans
Following the news, Britney took to Instagram to thank her fans for their love and support over the years.
“Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy 🥺❤️ !!! I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen,” she captioned a video of her fans celebrating the news.
Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, served as the conservator of her estate for 13 years, but in recent months revealed he wanted the conservatorship to end. He was then officially removed from the conservatorship in September.
Lady Gaga, Paris Hilton, and Other Celebs Shared Their Support
And it wasn’t just fans who were overjoyed for Britney. In fact, countless celebrities congratulated the “Oops I Did It Again” singer on social media, including none other than Lady Gaga.
“I have loved @britneyspears her whole career. I looked up to her, admired her strength — she empowered so many people and still does,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I couldn’t be more happy for you today. You never deserved what happened, Thank God 4 today. You’re a superstar and a super-human being. I LOVE YOU.”
