Last week, the internet was ablaze with news of Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker getting hitched. They are one of many celebrity couples who got married in Las Vegas.
The couple started dating at the beginning of 2021 and were spotted together as early as February. By October of 2021, they were already engaged, with Kourtney showing off an oval-shaped diamond engagement ring on social media.
They certainly haven’t been shy about their whirlwind romance. We’ve seen tons of PDA between Kourtney and Travis over the last year. From makeout sessions in NYC to canoodling on a boat in Italy, they can’t seem to keep their hands off each other.
Fast forward to April 2022, and these two love birds were walking into a Las Vegas wedding chapel! They were already in Sin City, as Travis was performing live at the Grammys.
Following the awards ceremony on Sunday, April 3, the couple had an impromptu wedding ceremony in the wee hours of the morning. They were accompanied only by their own photographer and security, while an Elvis impersonator pronounced them “man and wife.”
But as it turns out, it wasn’t exactly a “legal” wedding. It was later reported that they didn’t actually have a marriage license. Kourtney confirmed this herself on Instagram a couple of days later.
“Once upon a time in a land far, far away (Las Vegas) at 2am, after an epic night and a little tequila, a queen and her handsome king ventured out to the only open chapel with an Elvis and got married (with no license). Practice makes perfect,” she captioned the post, which featured several snaps from the ceremony.
They will supposedly have more (and I’m assuming legally binding) nuptials later. Whether or not they plan on returning to Vegas for it, we’ll have to wait and see.
Las Vegas weddings, Elvis or no Elvis, are certainly nothing new for celebrities. We’ve seen plenty of stars tie the knot in the Neon Capital of the World. And many of them did it for real, with legally binding licensesl
Let’s take a look at just some of the celebs that have gotten married in Las Vegas over the years!
Britney Spears and Jason Alexander
Everyone remembers Britney Spears’ Vegas wedding, right? In 2004, she married childhood friend Jason Alexander in a Vegas chapel, but the marriage was annulled a quick 55 hours later. Looks like she dodged a bullet, as he was recently arrested for stalking and violating an order of protection. Previous to that, he’s been arrested a handful of times, from getting cuffed in an airport for trespassing in a non-secure area, and for possession of a controlled substance while driving under the influence.
Spears meanwhile, recently announced her third pregnancy. After winning her freedom, she and Sam Asghari are going to start a family! She referred to him as her husband on Instagram, but we don’t know if they legally tied the knot.
Demi Moore and Bruce Willis
Bruce Willis and Demi Moore only dated for a few months before saying “I do” at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. They had three daughters over the course of their thirteen-year-long marriage before going their separate ways in 2000. The two still remain friends to this day.
David Harbour and Lily Allen
While everyone else was wrapped up in the pandemic, Lily Allen and David Harbour low-key tied the knot in a ceremony officiated by an Elvis impersonator. Both of them posted adorable photos on social media, and the only guests were Allen’s two children.
“Refreshments were served at a small reception following,” reads the Instagram post from Harbour – and by that, he means they chowed down on In-and-Out!
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas
Unlike some of the other Las Vegas ceremonies on this list, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas actually brought along some guests to their nuptials. After the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, these two love birds said “I do” at the Little White Wedding Chapel. Jonas brought his brothers along, Dan + Shay performed, and Diplo shared the entire thing on Instagram Live so the whole world could watch. They later had a bigger wedding in France, but the Vegas wedding was the legal one!
Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth
Shia LaBeouf and longtime girlfriend Mia Goth finally said “I do” alongside an Elvis Presley impersonator, a fog machine, and a hula dancer. Hey, only in Vegas, right? LaBeouf’s mom was in attendance. They were together for two years before announcing they had filed for divorce, but they didn’t stay apart forever. They got back together a couple of years later, split up again, and have reportedly reconciled again. Did they ever actually divorce? We don’t know–but Goth recently welcomed the couple’s first child.
Nicolas Cage and Riko Shibata
57-year-old Nicolas Cage married his 26-year-old girlfriend, Riko Shibata, in an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas in 2021. This is actually Cage’s fifth wedding, and it is not his first Vegas ceremony, either. The actor married makeup artist Erika Koike in a quick Vegas ceremony in 2019 but filed for an annulment a mere four days later. He claimed he was too intoxicated and “lacked understanding of his actions.” Hopefully, his latest marriage will work out better than the previous ones. The couple is currently expecting their first child together.
Bette Midler and Martin von Haselberg
Bette Midler’s Las Vegas residency wasn’t the first time the actress was in Sin City. She and her husband Martin von Haselberg had their 1984 wedding ceremony officiated by an Elvis impersonator at the Starlight Chapel. And unlike some of the other weddings on our list, this one is still going strong. They have been together for nearly 40 years!
Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton
Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton were quite the pair. Who can forget the necklaces they wore containing each other’s blood? After meeting on the set of a movie, they ran off and tied the knot in Las Vegas–while Thornton was still engaged to Laura Dern.
From there, they couldn’t seem to keep their hands off each other, making out on every red carpet. As fast as it began, it ended just as quickly. The intense couple separated in 2002 and officially divorced in the following year. Reportedly, though, Jolie still sends Thornton’s son Christmas gifts.
Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman
Model, actress, and MTV staple Carmen Electra dated NBA star Dennis Rodman in the late ‘90s when he was with the Chicago Bulls. Electra said it’s because she’s got a thing for bad boys, and Rodman was certainly known for being the bad boy of the NBA.
They were only together for several months before they wed at the Little Chapel of the Flowers in Las Vegas. It was nine days later when Rodman filed for an annulment, claiming he was of “unsound mind” when they tied the knot. They reconciled briefly but ultimately agreed to end the marriage soon after.
Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley
While on a tour in 1989, Jon Bon Jovi took a secret trip to Las Vegas to marry Dorothea Hurley, his high school sweetheart. Their ceremony was at the Graceland Wedding Chapel, one of Sin City’s oldest marriage chapels, just before midnight. They chose this chapel specifically because it’s named after the home of the late Elvis Presley. Rock stars love to pay homage to the King of Rock n’ Roll. These two are still married after all these years!
Mike Tyson and Lakiha Spicer
Mike Tyson and his third wife, Lakiha Spicer, have been married since 2009 when they said “I do” in Las Vegas. They exchanged vows at the La Bella Wedding Chapel in the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel. They came back to Vegas to renew their vows in 2011, but it was a surprise for invited guests, who thought they were attending a birthday party! After guests had arrived ready to celebrate, the couple surprised everyone by revealing the true meaning of the celebration. They reappeared in wedding attire and renewed their wedding vows in front of loved ones.
Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere
Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere were married for only four years before going their separate ways in 1995. According to the supermodel, it’s because they never spent enough time together. They were both in high demand at the peak of their careers when they fell in love.
The couple boarded a private jet with a few close friends and headed to Vegas to get married. They exchanged vows at The Church of the West. And thanks to the last-minute nature of the ceremony, they didn’t have official rings — so they exchanged wedding rings made of aluminum foil.
Cher and Gregg Allman
Back in 1975, the legendary Cher hopped on a private jet to Las Vegas to marry Gregg Allman, of Allman Brothers Band fame. They said “I do” only three days after Cher’s divorce from Sonny Bono was finalized. Cher filed to end the marriage only nine days later, unable to deal with Allman’s substance issues. They did get back together for a while, having one son together, Elijah Blue Allman. Their relationship was troubled, however, and their divorce was finalized in 1979.
