Step aside, Michael B. Jordan, because Paul Rudd’s here to take your throne.
The Ant-Man star was announced as People’s Sexiest Man Alive of 2021 on Tuesday, November 9, a title he’s not exactly sure he deserves.
You may not think you deserve it, Paul, but we do!
Stephen Colbert Broke the News
The big news was revealed on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, as Paul was a guest promoting his upcoming Apple TV+ series The Shrink Next Door.
But, before announcing the actor as the Sexiest Man Alive, the talk show host put the Anchorman alum through a series of tests to determine whether or not he’s sexy.
At the end of the tests, Stephen told Paul he “tested negative for sexy.” But, instead of throwing a fit, Paul responded with, “makes sense. I appreciate you just giving me a shot, honestly.”
The whole thing was obviously one big bit, because Stephen immediately changed course and told Paul he is the Sexiest Man Alive because he doesn’t think he deserves it.
“Don’t you see, Paul? There’s nothing sexier than humility. That was the last test, and you passed, Paul!”
Paul Literally Never Ages
Despite being 52 years old, Paul has always been known for his very youthful look. In fact, plenty of memes have been made over the fact this man does not age. And truthfully, he doesn’t!
But, regardless of the compliments, the former Friends star doesn’t believe he deserves such an honor.
“I do have an awareness, enough to know that when people hear that I’d be picked for this, they would say, ‘What?’” he told People.
“This is not false humility. There are so many people that should get this before me.”
Even his wife was a little shocked to hear he got the title!
“She was stupefied. But you know she was very sweet about it,” he shared.
“After some giggling and shock, she said ‘Oh, they got it right.’ And that was very sweet. She was probably not telling the truth, but what’s she going to say?”
Following in Great Footsteps
As previously stated, Paul takes the mantle of Sexiest Man Alive from Michael B. Jordan, who was a very worthy person to carry such a title.
Previous Sexiest Man Alive winners include John Legend, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Bradley Cooper, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Idris Elba, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, just to name a few.
And, though he’s friends with a lot of previous winners, Paul hopes earning this title will get him invited to Sexiest Man Alive parties. You know, because those exist.
“I’m hoping now that I’ll finally be invited to some of those sexy dinners with Clooney and Pitt and B Jordan. And I figure I’ll be on a lot more yachts. I’m excited to expand my yachting life,” he shared.
“And I’ll probably try to get better at brooding in really soft light. I like to ponder. I think this is going to help me become more inward and mysterious. And I’m looking forward to that.”
