Lochlyn Munro revealed in an interview recently that James Gunn cast him in the Peacemaker series because of his audition for Scooby-Doo 20 years ago. The Peacemaker series is set to debut in January next year.

How Did That Happen?

During an interview on the most recent episode of The Dave and Creech Show podcast, Munro revealed that James Gunn chose him from his audition for Shaggy in 2002’s Scooby-Doo.

“I ended up in this project because when he saw my tape, he remembered that I was one of his choices for Shaggy,” Munro said. “So I went in – Obviously, Lillard was the perfect choice for that character. But that’s kind of how we went, ‘Oh, yeah, I want Lochlyn in this, because I remember he was one of my choices for Scooby-Doo.’ Twenty years later, isn’t that weird?”

Gunn was the screenwriter for both the 2002 and 2004 live-action Scooby-Doo films. He’s also directed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and DC’s The Suicide Squad, which the series is a spinoff of.

Munro will play Larry Fitzgibbon, a character Gunn created specifically for the Peacemaker series. Not much is known about the character, except he has ties to Peacemaker and is the partner of Detective Sophie Song.

Munro is best known for his roles in Scary Movie, White Chicks, and Riverdale.

What’s ‘Peacemaker’ About?

The series follows Peacemaker’s missions following him leaving the hospital and explains his origins. According to DC Fandom, there is no time jump from the end-credits scene in The Suicide Squad, meaning we’ll see John Cena’s character recovering in the hospital first thing.

Fans can also expect to learn Peacemaker’s real name and meet his father, who trained him.

We already know John Cena is returning as the titular character, but we also know who else is returning.

John Economos, played by Steve Agee, is returning to provide technical and technological support to Peacemaker and Task Force X. We’ll also see Stephen Blackhart return as Briscoe, the helicopter pilot that delivered Task Force X to Corto Maltese.

Jennifer Holland is also reprising her role as Emilia Harcourt, Amanda Waller’s aide, who is transferred to the task force as punishment for her rebellion. However, this is a significant change from her character in the comics, where Waller kills her instead.

Auggie Smith, Peacemaker’s father, will be played by Robert Patrick. Freddie Stroma will be playing Adrian Chase, AKA Vigilante. Chase is the second person to hold the Vigilante mantel, is part of Task Force X, and looks to have some sort of friendship with Peacemaker.

We will also be getting some new characters exclusive to the series. Danielle Brooks will portray Leota Adebayo, a new recruit to the team. Chukwudi Iwuji will be heading Task Force X as Clemson Murn.

Nhut Le will portray Judomaster, Christopher Heyerdahl as Captain Locke, and Annie Chang as Detective Sophie Song. Not much is known about these three characters.

The eight-episode series will debut on HBO Max on January 13, 2022.
