The red carpet should be every star’s big moment. Their chance to shine, to wear amazing designer couture, and to take tons of incredible photos. And a lot of the time, that’s exactly what happens.

But no matter how picture-perfect these moments in the spotlight are meant to be, embarrassing incidents are bound to happen once in a while.

Here are some of the most unsettling red carpet moments that are best enjoyed from a safe distance.

When Will Smith Slapped That Flirty Reporter…

At the Men in Black 3 premiere, playful prankster journalist Vitalii Sediuk tried to kiss Will Smith, but he vividly wasn’t in the mood.

Smith promptly slapped him, then apologized and continued walking the red carpet, laughing the incident off like it wasn’t that serious of an offense. But the moment will never be forgotten.

The Time Amy Schumer Face Planted

This dramatic moment was intentional–and intentionally hilarious. Amy Schumer decided that she’d mix things up on the red carpet by face-planting in the midst of everyone trying to appear perfect. Her target? Kimye.

Amy’s commitment to the moment is admirable, but Kim Kardashian and Kanye West acting like she wasn’t even there was cringe-worthy.

Schumer explained her decision to take that infamous dive on The Graham Norton Show, saying, “…I saw Kim and Kanye standing there, just owning it, just being short and important. And I think falling is the funniest thing, so I took a dive in front of them.” Brava!

Issa Rae Is Forced into a Very Awkward Conversation

During the 2018 Golden Globes, Giuliana Rancic was having an A-okay chit-chat with Insecure’s Issa Rae. She innocently asked the producer/actress what she would title her memoir if she ever decided to write one. The only problem was that she’d already written one.

Her New York Times bestselling memoir is called The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl. And it was published back in 2015. Talk about an awkward promo. Aren’t red carpet hosts supposed to do at least a little bit of research before asking questions?

Luckily for all involved, Issa handled the moment with grace, telling the E! correspondent she’d title her next memoir, “Where Do I Go From Here? What Do I Do?” and let the reader “fill in the blanks.”

Jim Carrey Gets Philosophical and No One Can Stop Him

Jim Carrey has always been a wild card. Still, Catt Sadler didn’t realize what she was getting into when she pulled this famous funny man aside for a “keep it light” kind of chat. Looking back, maybe she should have skipped Carrey.

At the Harpers Bazaar ICONS party, everyone was there, even those who don’t really take Hollywood all that seriously. While discussing his choice to attend, Carrey told Sadler, “I wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join,” and that’s just the beginning of his unexpected explanation.

Truth be told, this sound bite is the kind of thing you just need to hear for yourself.

Isaac Mizrahi Gropes Scarlett Johansson

2006 was the year of the Golden Globe groping incident heard around the world. Here’s how it all went down.

A 22-year-old Scarlett Johansson told Isaac Mizrahi her Valentino gown came with “built-in support.” To the surprise of everyone (but mostly Scarlett), he decided to see for himself.

To make it worst, Mizrahi follows it up with the chant: “I touched Scarlett’s boobs, I touched Scarlett’s boobs.” The A-List actress laughed it off, but still.

While his couture dress “quality test” was seemingly meant in good humor, it was undeniably inappropriate, strange, and uncomfortable.

Nancy O’Dell Makes a Rather Bold Prediction About Taylor Swift’s Big Night

Taylor Swift is famous for her “surprised” face during awards ceremonies, but she usually keeps it cool and professional on the red carpet.

But not at the 2015 Grammys. During a red carpet interview, ET’s Nancy O’dell gave the singer a compliment she did not appreciate, saying, “You’re going to walk home with more than just a trophy tonight, I think, lots of men.”

And if you think the look on Swift’s face is priceless, just wait until you hear her response.

When Pharrell Is Asked About His Nonexistent Movie

Have you heard about Pharrell’s movie Hidden Fences? Neither has he.

The awkward exchange went down at the 2017 Oscars. While interviewing the Hidden Figures producer, Jenna Bush Hager combined the name of his film and another nominee, Fences. She attempted to breeze over it like an honest mixup, but because both movies starred predominantly black casts, it did not go over so well.

After backlash all over the internet, Bush apologized to Pharrell. He accepted via Twitter.

Jason Derulo Takes a Tumble…. or Does He?

A few years back, the internet couldn’t stop talking about Jason Derulo “falling down the steps of the Oscars.” The only problem with the story was that it happened at the Cannes Film Festival. Oh, and it wasn’t even him.

The whole thing began as a joke in 2015, but many thought they were witnessing the most dramatic celebrity Oscar entrance ever. Flash forward to today, a meme starring this mystery man (who may never reveal himself for this very reason) is still going strong.

End awkward scene!
