In just the last couple of years, Billie Eilish has gone from being a teenage girl with a poster of Justin Bieber on her bedroom wall to one of the most prolific artists working today.
Her rise to fame has been meteoric, and while she’s still just 18 years old, she has certainly taken the music industry by storm.
The “Bad Guy” singer appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, October 5 to discuss her 2020 Grammys sweep, as well as what it was like creating the new James Bond theme song, and new music in 2020.
Eilish and her brother, singer-songwriter Finneas, swept the 2020 Grammys, winning 11 trophies in total.
While the win would’ve been overwhelming for anyone to comprehend, it was especially shocking for the teenager who had never been nominated before.
“It was pretty peak, not because we won, but just because we were there. Just being nominated is so amazing and rare. So that was…we were already happy,” she told Fallon.

“I remember when we got there that morning me and Finneas were like, ‘We’re good, we don’t need to win. We’re already here. We’re not worried if we win or don’t win. It’s just amazing that we get to be here.'”
Don’t Be Embarrassed
Eilish was noticeably uncomfortable with the winning streak at the 2020 Grammys. At one point in the night, the camera even caught her mouthing “please don’t be me,” prior to her name being read as the winner.
Though she later revealed she was embarrassed after winning so many trophies, singer-songwriter legend Alicia Keys called her the next day to share some very important advice.
“The next day, we were over here and Alicia Keys called me and she wanted to congratulate me and she basically said on the phone which is something I hold so dear to me,” Eilish shared.

“Because you know she won a billion Grammys when she was really young. And she called me and was like, ‘I just wanted to say, don’t be embarrassed for being dope.'”
James Bond Song
Along with winning lots of Grammys and being an overall icon, Eilish also created the theme song for the James Bond film, No Time to Die.
The film was supposed to come out in April 2020, it then got pushed to November 2020, and it just recently got pushed again, this time to April 2021.
Though the film won’t be coming out for quite some time, she was excited to create the track with her brother.
“You know it’s a lot of pressure, it’s a f—king Bond song, so we were pretty stumped,” she explained.
“And there was just one day where Finneas was playing on the piano and he played this one melody,” she said as she mimicked the harmony, “and we were just like [yes]!”
New Music is Coming
Despite the fact that the music industry is in flux, with so many tours canceled and postponed, COVID-19 has given artists the time to work on new music.
In fact, thanks to the long break, Eilish and Finneas have been able to create some new music that they hope people will get to hear soon.
“We’ve made a lot of music. I don’t think we would have made it otherwise if we hadn’t got this time,” she said.
“So as much as it’s been terrible to have this going on in the world, I think it has birthed some things. We have been really lucky with it.”
