Calling all BTS fans! If you’ve ever wanted to own something from the K-pop group, I’ve got some good news for you.
Some of the costumes worn by the group in the video for “Dynamite” are heading to auction — plus, it’s for a good cause.
BTS wore a number of retro looks in their first English language single, “Dynamite.” Aesthetically, it’s got a pastel-colored vintage daydream vibe going on. Clearly, the video didn’t disappoint, because it smashed YouTube premiere records.
If you were one of the fans that watched the music video on repeat, you’ll be happy to know that you could be the lucky owner of one of their ‘90s-inspired outfits.
BTS Donated Costumes to Raise Money for Charity
Come January 2021, BTS is auctioning off a group of pastel ensembles from the video. It’s all for charity, too.
The annual charity event, Julien’s Auctions MusiCares Charity Relief Auction, is running the show. MusiCares is the philanthropic arm of the Recording Academy — yes, the very same that runs the Grammy Awards every year.
The non-profit organization provides a safety net of critical assistance for those in the music industry in times of need. Services and resources cover a wide range, including financial, medical, and personal emergencies. So far, the charity has distributed more than $86 million in health, financial, and rehabilitation resources.
MusiCares will auction the outfits worn by BTS in the final dance sequence of the “Dynamite” music video. But make sure you have your checkbook ready. As reported by Reuters, Julien’s Auctions deemed a “conservative” estimate of $20,000 to $40,000 for the set.
“We can’t think of a better way to highlight the work of MusiCares than with this ‘Dynamite’ contribution from BTS,” said the president and CEO of Julien’s Auctions, Darren Julien. He also noted that the K-pop group’s “groundbreaking music and uplifting messages of hope and optimism are what the world needs right now.”
Julien continued, “We thank BTS for their generous donation of their special one-of-a-kind items whose proceeds will benefit the most urgent initiative.”
Proceeds Going to Those Affected By COVID-19 Pandemic
This time around, the auction’s proceeds will be channeled towards those in the music industry who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This, of course, isn’t the first time BTS has stepped up for the Recording Academy’s charity auction. This year’s auction featured custom-made microphones that were used by BTS from 2017 to 2019. They were used during BTS’ epic “BTS World Tour Love Yourself: Speak Yourself” tour.
Each member signed the stage-used mics, and they sold for a whopping $83,200 back in January 2020.
BTS have donated to various other causes, as well. Perhaps most notably, the K-pop group donated $1 million to the Black Lives Matters movement this year.
For this year’s Julien’s Auctions MusiCares Charity Relief Auction, bidding will take place on January 29, 2021.
The auction will take place in Beverly Hills, CA. The bidding will take place live, both in person and online at juliensauctions.com.
