Pop music runs in Lance Bass’s family.
The former *NSYNC star has always been close to pop Queen Britney Spears, but it turns out they’re more than just friends. In fact, they’re family!
The 42-year-old found out the exciting news on an episode of Ancestry’s 2 Lies & A Leaf, and let’s just say he was more than a little excited.
Felt “Too Good to Be True”
In the recent episode, Lance and his husband, Michael Turchin, wanted to take a closer look into his family tree.
Then, while learning more about his ancestors, Lance was asked to guess which musical star he’s related to — Faith Hill, Elvis Presley, or Britney.
While Lance wanted it to be Britney, he decided to guess Elvis because he felt being related to the “Toxic” singer would be “too good to be true.”
Needless to say, Lance was shocked to find out Britney is actually his sixth cousin, once removed.
“Are you kidding me? … This is amazing. Oh my gosh! Look, I wanted to be related to the Queen. Well now I’m related to the queen of pop!” he exclaimed.
Always Felt Related to Britney
Because of their pop music careers, Britney and Lance have been friends for decades. I mean, who could forget Britney dating Lance’s bandmate, Justin Timberlake?
In fact, Lance revealed he always felt like the “Oops I Did It Again” songstress was his little sister.
“That is so crazy though, ’cause, I mean, I feel like she’s my little sister, and this whole time she’s been my little cousin. And it makes sense because we were born an hour from each other. This is so cool,” he shared.
“For some reason, I always felt like we looked like family, even when we were kids. I mean, this means so much to me. She is like family to me, so the fact that we are blood-related is amazing.”
Britney Was One of the First People He Came Out To
The former pop star, who has been married to Michael since 2014, publicly came out back in 2006.
However, Britney was actually one of the first people he privately came out to in 2004. And, believe it or not, he told her the day she married Jason Alexander in Las Vegas.
“It was the night that she got married the first time in Vegas to Jason. So I went up to Vegas to kind of see the craziness that was happening. And she was a little upset once she realized what she had done because, you know, it was a funny thing,” he told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live a few years ago.
“And then she started, like, really crying and, like, she was so upset. So I took her to her room and we were sitting on her bed and she wouldn’t stop crying, so I was like, ‘I’m gay.’ And it made her stop crying.”
Little did he know he was opening up to his family! Make sure to invite Britney to the next family reunion, Lance.
