‘Good For You’ Podcast With Whitney Cummings – Ep. 39: Nikki Glaser
Fans of either one of these starlets will love this episode. And if you’ve never heard of either of these women, I still highly recommend this one. Women (and men!) of all ages can find something to relate to as these girls get into deep and revealing conversation.
Show synopsis: Comedian Whitney Cummings interviews guests (friends, comics, celebs, experts, weirdos) every week. Known for her standup comedy specials for HBO and Netflix, Comedy Central Roasts, multiple television series and films, Whitney has a lot of questions for a lot of different kinds of people. She also has opinions. And a robot. Subscribe to hear interviews that are always interesting and never too long.
Why this episode: Nikki Glaser and Whitney Cummings are two hilarious comedians with amazing chemistry. Their unique perspective as women on top of the comedy game always makes for interesting conversation, as does their mutual openness about their lives.
Memorable quotes: Nikki: You know what I’m holding onto so much?…Before puberty. I am holding onto being – not a kid, but a preteen. Because I was later than all my friends. I didn’t get my period ’til I was, like, 16. The time before that. [I had] no worries! I didn’t care about boys, I didn’t care about my body. I would eat, or I wouldn’t.
Whitney: The male attention thing is f***ing exhausting.
Your Mom’s House Podcast With Tom Segura and Christina P. – Ep. 568: Kevin Nealon
Seeing a comedy legend being interviewed by two of comedy’s current rising stars is always a treat. Watch the ever-hilarious Nealon charm his friends Tom and Christina on their long-running podcast. YMH fans know that of course, Tom does indeed force some pretty raunchy TikTok clips upon Nealon in the final minutes.
Nealon also treats longtime fans to one of his funniest stand-up bits, as requested by Christina P. – but you’ll have to listen to see which one!
Show synopsis: Your Mom’s House is the hugely successful podcast hosted by married comedians Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky. If you enjoy 7th grade humor, you will love YMH!
Why this episode: Kevin Nealon talking about his time on “SNL” is hilarious and insightful. Also, Tom gets up in the middle of the interview and leaves to do something mysterious, and YMH fans (or anyone who’s in a relationship) will love the way Christina calls him out. The episode also features an intense clip of a covid-era confrontation in a Sephora store, and the color commentary by this trio is pretty glorious.
Memorable quotes: Tom: It was so refreshing to hear somebody go, “What do you want?” And they’re like, “Um, I’d really like to fall in love and spend time with somebody who’s happy, and that I make them happy.” And you’re like, Holy sh*t! I don’t think I’ve ever heard anybody say that.
Kevin:…I would get devastated…I had a McDonald’s commercial to audition for where I had to cry, and [this girl] had just broken up with me two days earlier. So I go there, it was on La Brea in Hollywood…and when it comes to the part to cry, I was wailing like a baby. And they’re looking at me like, “Oh my god, that poor guy!”
I get a callback like four or five weeks later, and now I’m kind of over the girl. So I had to bring her 8×10 with me, and the phone message from the machine and play it over and over. And I went in there, and I could not bring the tears again. So she screwed me twice.
NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert – Chika
Show synopsis: This performance, which was recorded on February 24 of this year, features upcoming rapper Chika. At only 23, the young Nigerian-American already garnered an impressive following. She has over 1.1 million followers on Instagram (@chikalogy), and she was included on XXL’s 2020 Freshman Class, the magazine’s annual selection of the top 10 “artists to watch” in the rap game.
Why this episode: In my humble opinion, the songs Chika sings are perfect for a lazy summer afternoon. You’ll know after the first couple of tracks if it’s your jam, too. Plus, the interview section is great – I loved when Chika explains (pretty hilariously) why she decided to do a pared-down set compared to other Tiny Desk Concerts she’s seen.
Memorable quotes: Man I can’t wait to see the jaws drop /
Collectively when these songs drop / Notorious with the artpop, one hell of a picture / And I know, ain’t got no hourglass figure / But I can get smaller while my pockets gettin’ bigger…They break they own heart and now they windin’ up bitter.
