Summer is the best time of the year. New movies hit theaters, the pool opens up, and when it gets too hot, you can always spend inside playing video games. If you’re looking for new games to play this summer, you’re in luck: tons of great new titles are on the way. Let’s look at some of the biggest games coming out in the next few months.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The HD remake of one of the most divisive Zelda titles is hitting the Switch soon. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword originally released on the Wii in 2011 and was met with a mixed reception. Critics loved the storyline and clever dungeons of the game, but its motion controls were a bit more divisive.

The updated release gives the game a much-needed HD facelift. As the earliest story in the Zelda timeline, it’s a must-play title for longtime fans of the series. Skyward Sword launches for Switch on July 16.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Monster Hunter Stories 2
Capcom | Nintendo

The upcoming sequel to Monster Hunter Stories launches on July 9. Unlike most Monster Hunter games, Stories sees the player character working with the titular monsters instead of hunting them down. Combat is turn-based rather than real-time, lending the Stories subseries a unique feel.

The game features a much more in-depth story than the main series, as the name implies. The Switch exclusive Monster Hunter side-story will be hitting the console soon, so fans of the long-running franchise don’t have to wait long.

NEO: The World Ends With You

The original The World Ends With You title was a sleeper hit back in 2007 on the Nintendo DS. Featuring stylish character designs from Final Fantasy alum Tetsuya Nomura, the game earned cult classic status. Fans have been clamoring for a sequel for the intervening 14 years, and it’s finally hitting the Switch and PS4 this summer.

The new title is light on details currently, but players are likely to be thrust back into the Reaper’s Game. This harrowing game sees players fighting for their very lives against the machinations of the dangerous Reapers, a soul-collecting species of immortals. Newcomers and returning fans alike are sure to love this RPG title, which releases on July 27.

Hades

One of the finest roguelikes in recent memory, Hades, lands on PS5 and Xbox Series X this summer. Players assume the role of little-known underworld deity Zagreus, the son of Hades. As Zag, you attempt to climb out of the underworld to feel the sun of the surface world on your skin. The gorgeous hand-drawn art underscores the power of the ancient Greek myths that gives the story its backdrop.

A roaring soundtrack and unparalleled voice work make the game easy on the ears as well as the eyes. Full of decadent imagery and extremely tight action gameplay, Hades is among the best games released in the last year. The game finally lands on PlayStation and Xbox on August 13. Mark your calendars!

Psychonauts 2

The long-awaited sequel to Tim Schaefer’s excellent Psychonauts is almost here. In this mind-bending title, players take the role of Raz, a telepath with the unique ability to enter the mindscapes of other people. The game’s platforming action takes place largely within these mental landscapes, lending the game an otherworldly quality that is reminiscent of the works of Tim Burton.

The hotly-anticipated sequel finally releases on August 25.
