Buffy the Vampire Slayer is back!

While we won’t be seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar or Alyson Hannigan return on screen together (at least not yet), we’ll get to return to their characters’ universe through a spin-off book series for young adults.

The story of Buffy is being reimagined for the new series under the publishing house Disney Hyperion. The first novel of the new series will be released on January 4, 2022.

The YA series is set to be a prequel story to Buffy’s. A trilogy is already in the works, and time will tell if this will turn into a larger franchise. If today’s young adult audiences respond to the new story as well as we did in the early 2000s, it’s sure to be a hit.

Although the story will take place on paper rather than on screen, knowing Disney it’s only a matter of time before we’ll see this spin-off on television. It’s likely they just need to introduce the characters and establish their next big franchise in writing before taking it to the screen.

Kendare Blake is set to author the first book of the series, which will be called In Every Generation.

The cover for the new Buffy book is already giving me chills! And Kendare Blake, an experienced author, seems like a perfect fit to pen this new story.

“The team at Disney Hyperion is excited to explore the 20th Century catalog and look for new ways to reimagine this incredible wealth of content that now falls under the Disney umbrella,” says Kiernan Violet, editorial director at Disney Hyperion.

“There are so many fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on our team, this seemed like the perfect property to launch with, and an incredible way to help the company celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary in 2022.”

Blake’s work is “sort of dark, always violent, and features passages describing food from when she writes while hungry,” according to her website. She has written many successful stories and young adult series. These include:

Three Dark Crowns – “Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic…But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.”

Anna Dressed in Blood – “Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead. Searching for a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas expects the usual: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before…Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home. Yet she spares Cas’s life.”

All These Bodies (Coming September 2021) – “Summer 1958… the Carlson family is slaughtered in their Minnesota farmhouse, and the case gets its first lead: 15-year-old Marie Catherine Hale is found at the scene.

Michael Jensen, son of the local sheriff, yearns to become a journalist and escape his small-town. He never imagined that the biggest story in the country would fall into his lap, or that he would be pulled into the investigation, when Marie decides that he is the only one she will confess to.”

With Blake’s writing skills and Disney Hyperion’s publishing prowess, this series is sure to turn into something big. Will you be ordering a copy of the new Buffy revival story?
