Is Jason Momoa about to lose his leading lady? Rumors are swirling that Amber Heard might be out as Mera in the Aquaman franchise–and fans are hoping she’ll be replaced by Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated for a 2022 release, and the production has already started filming. So why do fans want Amber Heard out–and is Emilia Clarke really poised to step into her role?

Amber Heard Blacklisted?

35-year-old Amber Heard started off in Hollywood making big waves as soon as she landed her first big role in 2006 with All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. Her career really took off, though, when she scored the role of Queen Mera in 2017’s Justice League and 2018’s Aquaman.

Unfortunately, Amber Heard’s notoriety has also been exacerbated by several controversial court battles she’s endured with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, whom she was married to from 2015 to 2017.

Because of this seemingly endless lawsuit drama, many DC fans are wondering if Amber Heard will continue as Queen Mera in the DC universe.

Will Emilia Clarke Replace Amber Heard?

Emilia Clarke is famous for her breakout role as Danerys Targaryen in HBO’s Game of Thrones (2011-2019). With eight years of experience under her belt in television, Clarke certainly has the chops to step up as Queen Mera if Amber Heard was no longer attached to the project.

Clarke has also starred in films such as Terminator Genisys (2015), Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018), Me Before You (2016), and Last Christmas (2019). If anyone were able to take over Amber Heard’s role with ease, it would certainly be Clarke. These two talented ladies look so alike that fans of Aquaman might not be too irked about an actress swap.

Some viewers might even be pleased with the decision. While Emilia Clarke has maintained a relatively positive reputation in the tabloids, Heard’s relationship with Johnny Depp has made her the subject of negative press, with rumors about her personal character being stoked every day. Thus, there are people who might prefer Heard to be dropped from the production altogether.

Why Rumors Are Spreading That Amber Heard Will Be Dropped From ‘Aquaman’

An Australian news outlet recently ran a story that Emilia Clarke would replace Amber Heard in the next Aquaman film. They were reporting on a rumor that Amber Heard had violated her contract with the production and would soon be fired. However, there is no proof that this report was true.

As far as we know, Amber Heard did not violate her Aquaman contract, and the producers have no plans to replace her with Clarke. Heard is still set to star alongside Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson in the 2022 sequel, which they have been filming since late June in London.

The new film has a current release date scheduled for December 16, 2022. Unless a valid report of Amber Heard’s replacement crops up in the next couple of months, it’s safe to bet that we will see her as Queen Mera again in a little over a year.

Meanwhile, Emilia Clarke is busy working on two projects, so her schedule wouldn’t line up with the Aquaman 2 production, anyway. One of these projects is an animated fantasy film called The Amazing Maurice. The other will be a six-episode Marvel TV show called Secret Invasion. Both works are set to be released in 2022.
