We just celebrated “National Best Friends Day” earlier this week (there’s a day for everything, isn’t there?), and it got me thinking about some of the most iconic celebrity best friends in history. From Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to Oprah and Gayle, there are just certain A-list friendships everyone and their mother knows about.
But let me tell you, there are a lot of celebrity best friends you would never even assume know each other! I know Hollywood is a small town and people meet in mysterious ways, but some of these friendships had me truly shocked.
From singers and talk show hosts to reality stars and actors, these celebrity BFFs are surprising–and seriously cute.
Courteney Cox and Ed Sheeran
Most of us know about Courtney’s close friendship with Friends pal Jennifer Aniston, but did you know she’s very close to Ed Sheeran too? In fact, their friendship began way back in 2013 when Ed started living in Courtney’s home rent-free. OK, can I live in your home rent-free, Courteney?
Then, just a little while later, Ed actually introduced Courteney to her future boyfriend, Johnny McDaid. Trading free rent for a boyfriend? I’d say both Courteney and Ed won in this friendship.
Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini
They may seem like two totally different people, but J.Lo and Leah have been close for years. Jennifer was still dating Marc Anthony back in 2004 when she met her future bestie. Leah was good friends with Marc at the time, and she instantly clicked with Jennifer. Though Jennifer and Marc ended up divorcing, her friendship with Leah is still going strong.
Jonathan Van Ness and Nicola Coughlan
Yes, it’s true — the Queer Eye legend and Bridgerton star are actually BFFs! But, before they met in person, they were both a fan of each other’s work. Nicola loved Queer Eye (um, who doesn’t?!) and Jonathan was obsessed with Nicola on Derry Girls. They then became pals on Instagram back in 2018 and the rest is history!
“Our friendship really is just so special to me because Nicola’s been in this industry for a minute, and I haven’t, and there’s just been so many times where I had questions and didn’t know what to do, and needed feedback,” Jonathan told People.
“She’s helped me navigate all sorts of situations that I never thought I’d find myself in.”
Adele and Jennifer Lawrence
It shouldn’t be surprising to find out Adele and Jennifer Lawrence — two of the most successful people in their respective industries — are friends, but for some reason it is?
Regardless, the pair met years ago at the Oscars and have been close ever since. In fact, they regularly hang out with another close pal and A-list star, Emma Stone. Adele was spotted attending Jennifer’s wedding to her husband, Cooke Maroney, back in 2019.
John Mayer and Andy Cohen
Never in a million years did I think Bravo host Andy Cohen and A-list musician John Mayer would be BFFs, but here we are! These two became very close in recent years, with John appearing on Andy’s Watch What Happens Live often. They have even gone on vacation together!
