If you’re expecting a few Halloween treats in October, you’re in luck. While not everything coming to Netflix in October is spine-tingling, they are bringing some new spooky and kooky content to us all month long.
Mr. Harringan’s Phone is the first of the batch. This horror film centers on a boy named Craig who befriends an elderly man, Mr. Harrington, and gives him a phone. When the man passes away, Craig makes calls to the phone about those who torment him, but he finds that Mr. Harrigan’s spirit starts avenging him from beyond the grave. It’s based on one of four novellas in Stephen King’s anthology If It Bleeds.
Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is another standout spooky series that will hit Netflix this month. Just in time for Halloween, the horror anthology will feature eight unique horror stories based on del toro’s short story of the same name. The series is slated to be visually stunning and spine-tingling, sophisticated and horrific. Del Toro takes on the Alfred Hitchcock role, introducing each episode.
Not everything for Halloween has to be scary and adults only, though. For something a little more family-friendly, Netflix is releasing Wendell & Wild on October 28th. In this stop-motion animated movie, two scheming demon brothers make a deal with a punk-loving teen so they can leave the Underworld for the Land of the Living. It’s Henry Selick’s first feature film since 2009’s Coraline and stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as the titular characters.
We Don’t Have a Date for These – At Least, Not Yet
There are two Halloween releases coming from Netflix that don’t have a date yet.
The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself is a Netflix Original series about 16-year-old Nathan, the illegitimate son of the world’s most terrifying witch, Marcus Edge. He has spent his whole life being monitored out of fear he may turn violent and destructive like his father. But, as the boundaries between good and bad begin to fray, he will discover what sort of person he truly is. If this happens to sound familiar, it’s because the series is based on the Half Bad trilogy from Sally Green.
Netflix says we can expect The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself during the month of October, but there isn’t an official date yet.
Wednesday is the other Netflix series with a notably absent release date. It centers on Wednesday Addams while attending high school at Nevermore Academy. She’s navigating new relationships like any other teen, but she’s also working on perfecting her psychic powers and trying to stop a monstrous killing spree. I know I’m not the only one who is dying to check out this show, but Netflix hasn’t told us when we can expect it.
Fortunately, we do know when to expect plenty of other content.
The Full List of “Netflix and Chills”
Here's the full #NetflixandChills lineup for this Halloween season! pic.twitter.com/ce12z8Va90
— Bloody Disgusting (@BDisgusting) September 6, 2022
As you can see, Netflix’s spooky lineup for Halloween season already started in September. End of the Road starring Queen Latifah and Ludacris started us off, followed by Lou and Phantom Pups. But once we get into October, we get plenty more series and movies.
There are also a couple of titles arriving after Halloween, so we can keep the thrills coming. Capturing the Killer Nurse is an upcoming true crime documentary film about serial killer Charlie Cullen. He was an experienced registered nurse who ended up as one of history’s most prolific serial killers. After that, a film titled Troll will arrive in December. The Norwegian movie centers on a ragtag group of city-dwellers struggling to stop something they thought only existed in folklore after an ancient troll is awakened and starts destroying everything in its path.
It’s Not All Halloweenie Ghosts and Ghouls
Not everything coming to Netflix in October is a frightful flick. There are plenty of good ol’ non-spooky-themed shows and movies arriving during the month of October, too. From kids’ animated series to cooking competitions to action movies, there’s a little bit of something for everyone.
Netflix’s unique cooking competition show, Nailed It!, returns to the streaming service for a seventh season on October 5th. Hosted by Nicole Byer, contestants lacking baking skills do their best to recreate elaborate desserts. The show is one part reality contest and one part hot mess. If you are one of those rare people who haven’t seen it yet, you can go ahead and binge the first six seasons that are already on Netflix.
Kids will be happy to know that a fourth season of the animated series Chip and Potato is coming to Netflix, too. The third season dropped back in March of 2021, so I’m willing to bet that the kids all ran through it a few hundred times already. That means parents will be happy for some new episodes, too.
The streaming giant is also bringing a few stand-up specials during the month of October. And by a few, I mean six:
- Hasan Minhaj: The King’s Jester
- Kev Adams: The Real Me
- DEAW#13 Udom Taephanich Stand Up Comedy Show
- Iliza Shlesinger: Hot Forever
- Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy
- Fortune Feimster: Good Fortune
As you can see, there’s a pretty good spread. Let’s get into the full list for October.
