If you’re hoping for some new shows to start off the new year, Hulu is bringing you the goods.
Hulu’s library of originals is expanding, as the new movie Sex Appeal makes its debut on January 14. This coming-of-age comedy features familiar comedians Margaret Cho and Fortune Feimster, along with Mika Abdalla, Paris Jackson, and Skai Jackson.
Hulu Original How I Met Your Father is also hitting the streaming service in January 2022. Starring Hilary Duff, Kim Cattrall, and Chris Lowell, it’s the not-quite-sequel to the long-running fan-favorite How I Met Your Mother. This time around, Duff stars as a single young woman in New York City, with the older version of herself (played by Cattrall) narrating the story of how she met her true love.
We’re also getting plenty of other movies and shows, both old and new.
Star Trek fans will be happy to know that Hulu is adding several movies: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989), Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991), and Star Trek: Insurrection (1998).
And for anyone who’s been catching up with SJP and friends in the new Sex and the City reboot on HBO Max (And Just Like That), you’ll be able to rewatch Sex and the City and Sex and the City 2 on Hulu starting January 1.
In the world of TV shows, the brave first responders of 9-1-1: Lone Star are finally back for a third season after a long wait. Steve Harvey is ready to try his hand at reality court shows with Judge Steve Harvey. Mayim Bialik is back for season 2 of Call Me Kat, and Black-ish starts its final season later this month. Oh, and Fox is reviving its early-2000s reality dating show Joe Millionaire with Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer. It will be available on January 7, the day after it airs live.

As with any other streaming service, sometimes things have to leave the catalog, too. Hulu will be losing a slew of movies in the month of January, so this is your last chance to check out some of these films.
A few of these are Christmas movies, so you’re not likely to watch them past now, anyway. But there are a few good ones in here that we’ll be sorry to see go: no more Black Swan, and kiss goodbye to the nostalgia of Never Been Kissed. Dora and the Lost City of Gold is going away, and my kids are going to be mad about that one. We’re also losing Elektra, but hey, that’s probably for the best.
