Sylvester Stallone gave fans a sneak peek at his costume for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 this morning in a now-deleted Instagram post.

Stallone Back in Blue

The photo Stallone posted, which was eventually deleted, showcased the top half of his costume. It featured his royal blue flight jacket with gold trim and zippers, a slicked-back hairstyle, and a Ravagers patch sewn on the shoulder.

The last we saw of Stallone’s Stakar Ogord was in a post-credits scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Following his exiling of Yondu earlier in the film, Stakar gathered a group of Ravager leaders to discuss an unknown mission. Maybe we’ll finally learn what that was in the threequel.

Those Ravager leaders included Charlie-27, played by Ving Rhames; Martinex, played by Michael Rosenbaum; Aleta, played by Michelle Yeoh; Mainframe, voiced by Miley Cyrus; and a fully-CGI Krugarr. We don’t know if the rest of these Ravagers are returning, but they were part of the original Guardians team in the 1960s comics.

Hopefully, we learn more about Stakar and his transformation into Starhawk in the third Guardians movie. And maybe he’ll get to lead the team like in the comics.

Filming Started Last Week

Last week, director James Gunn announced filming had started and shared a picture of him with the team. Also pictured were Will Poulter, who’s portraying Adam Warlock, and Chukwudi Iwuji, whose role is still unknown.

“It’s been a strange & long & at time challenging journey to get here, but the obstacles along the way have only made this moment more blissful. Back on set with my Guardians family for the first day of shooting #GotGVol3”

Stallone and Gunn have worked together twice before, most recently in DC’s The Suicide Squad when Stallone voiced King Shark.

We don’t know much about the plot, but Gunn said this will be one of the most emotional movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even cast members have mentioned they cried while reading the script. We also know many characters will die in this movie.

Gunn also stated recently that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his last project with Marvel.

What We Know About the Threequel

We know that it will take place after Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder. The Guardians team will appear in the upcoming Thor movie, but we don’t know how big of a role they will play.

Gunn said many characters will be dying in this film, and it makes sense because the main lineup won’t be the same in the future. Since the beginning, we’ve had the five members – Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot – but we may be getting a whole new team in the end.

Rocket’s backstory has been mainly a mystery, but Gunn said we’ll explore where the talking raccoon comes from. Some fan theories think he’s tied to the High Evolutionary or Adam Warlock, but only time will tell.

Finding Gamora may play a significant role in setting the story off. When she came back in Endgame, she wasn’t the same Gamora we grew to love. This Gamora hasn’t been with the team all these years. In a deleted scene from Endgame, she walked away from the group, so Star-Lord may be searching for her.

Another antagonist from the last Guardians movie will be returning, but how large of a role she’ll play is still unknown. Ayesha, who created Adam Warlock in a post-credit scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, may be teaming up with her creation to take down the team.

We can’t wait for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
