It’s 2023! It’s time to enter our villain era!
We all see ourselves as the hero in our own stories. But we have to admit that it is way more fun to be a villain sometimes.
The articles I write usually focus on the positive traits of the zodiac signs. But I decided to focus on the signs’ baser instincts to see which Disney Villains they align with. Aries has garnered a reputation for being the angriest sign in the zodiac. As an Aries myself, I have to admit that even though we have much more pleasant traits as well, we are pretty temperamental and easily-irritated. The Queen of Heart embodies these traits when she recklessly calls for the decapitation of anyone who opposes her. She also wears Aries’ power color, red!

Taurus has the distinction of having the only live-action villain on the list. Barbossa displays Taurean hedonism more than any other villain in the Disney pantheon. He is motivated by his desire to once again enjoy his creature comforts. Taureans can sympathize with his need to feel any sensation after being cursed with feeling nothing for a decade.

“I feel nothing. Not the wind on my face nor the spray of the sea. Nor the warmth of a woman’s flesh”
Mother Gothel displays Gemini’s positive and negative traits. She is verbally expressive in the way she beautifully crafts a poetic spell to harness the flower’s magic. But she is also incredibly insecure about her age and her looks, and stoops so low as to kidnap a child just to maintain her youthful appearance.

Of course the cardinal water sign had to be the most notorious pirate captain in Disney history (sorry, Barbossa!) Hook shares a lot of traits in common with the crabby moon-children. Like a Cancerian, he is unshakable in his quest to defeat Peter Pan. He is also quite charming, like a calculating Cancer in the way he manipulates Tinkerbell into betraying Peter.
You are probably wondering why I didn’t pair Cancer with Tamatoa. Hook just fits a Cancerian personality more.

So many villains on this list could have been paired with Leo. But Gaston ultimately wins out because he is the most vainglorious villain in the pantheon. I mean he sings a song where his name is said at least twenty times. Yes, I did keep count. Not only is he as vain as the leonine fire sign, he is also just as bombastic and willful.

Like any Virgo, Lady Tremaine values a good work ethic above anything else. Also like a Virgo, she is incredibly critical of Cinderella. She is quick thinking and pragmatic and will stop at nothing to ensure that one of her daughters marries the prince. It’s interesting to pair her with Virgo, because just as she demonstrates all of Virgo’s less desirable traits, her beleaguered step-daughter exemplifies all of Virgo’s positive traits.

I’m going to start this section by saying that The Emperor’s New Groove is an underrated classic and should be talked about more. Now that that is out of the way, Yzma is the quintessential Libra who has not yet reached emotional maturity. She is ambivalent to the needs of the kingdom and resentful that she has to serve an immature leader. She also tries to be superficially diplomatic to keep her position.

I don’t know about you, but I think Ursula is absolutely Divine. A select few of you will actually get that joke. Ursula embodies several of Scorpio’s more insidious traits. She is envious of King Triton’s power and Ariel’s beautiful voice. She is also secretive in that she doesn’t reveal her true reason for taking Ariel’s voice.

“You’ll have your looks, your pretty face. And don’t underestimate the importance of body language”
You might be thinking, “Frollo is a judge, shouldn’t he be Libra.” Maybe. But I think he encapsulates more Sagittarian traits. Like a Sagittarius, he has the tendency to be judgemental of those he views as beneath him. He is also introspective and overly preoccupied with his own philosophical worldview.

“I’ll find her. I’ll find her if I have to burn down all of Paris!”
An emotionally mature Capricorn wants to be the best leader that they can be. However, an emotionally immature Capricorn only cares about eliminating the competition. Like the cardinal earth sign, The Evil Queen goes to great and gruesome lengths to eradicate her rival Snow White.

“Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?”
So can we all agree that the unfortunate events surrounding Sleeping Beauty could have been prevented if they had just invited Maleficent to the party? Like an Aquarius, Maleficent must struggle with feeling like an outsider. Sometimes when outsiders feel misunderstood by their communities they lash out in reckless ways…or they curse spinning wheels.

“I must say, I was distressed at not receiving an invitation.”
If you have a prominent Pisces placement in your chart, you may have metaphysical abilities. But what happens when the preternatural Pisces use their abilities for their own selfish gains? They turn into the magical yet malicious Dr. Facilier! Dr. Facilier uses his magic and manifestations to manipulate those around him. Also, I’m pretty sure every Pisces has wanted to turn someone into a frog at some point.

The Duke was not really the villain of Frozen and Ophiuchus is not really a zodiac sign! Also can we all take a moment to appreciate that this is one Disney character voiced by Alan Tudyk that isn’t a bird?
