Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are teaming up in this new political satire disaster film, and Netflix is finally giving us a first peek of what to expect from “Don’t Look Up.”
A Pair of Astronomers Try to Warn the Earth… But Will the Earth Listen?
In this new comedy, Lawrence and DiCaprio play a pair of astronomers who discover an asteroid is hurtling toward the earth. They try to warn the public about the impending doom, but… no one takes their dire warning seriously.
Director Acknowledges the Timeliness of the Film’s Plot
Director Adam McKay revealed that the plot of the film is relevant to what is happening in the world today surrounding the ongoing pandemic during an interview with Rolling Stone.
“We were scouting a new movie in Boston when this whole coronavirus thing hit. And the movie is about an asteroid that’s gonna hit Earth and destroy the Earth, and the two scientists who discovered it. … The whole idea is that the President doesn’t understand the science and kind of soft-sells it and the urgency is kind of lost.
And so these two scientists have to go on a media tour and kind of get caught up in the social media vortex and TV shows, and they’re just trying to say that, ‘Hey, we’re all gonna die.”
