When fans learned that Nicole Kidman was cast to play the iconic role of Lucille Ball in the upcoming “Being the Ricardos,” they weren’t happy about it. And why?

Because they strongly believed that Debra Messing would be a far superior choice. After all, she did play Lucille Ball in one of the episodes of Will & Grace with great success.

Lucille Ball’s Daughter Defends Casting Nicole Kidman to Play Her Mother in New I Love Lucy Film

Lucie Arnaz posted a video on Facebook in response to the outroar by fans because she felt like she should “at least calm the waters here.” In the video, she asked fans to remember that the movie isn’t an update of “I Love Lucy,” but is instead about her parent’s real-life story.

“Here’s the deal. You should understand. We are not doing a remake of ‘I Love Lucy.’ No one has to impersonate Lucy Ricardo nor do the Vitameatavegamin routine, or the chocolate factory routine or any of the silly things,” she said.

“It’s the story of Lucille Ball, my actual mother, not Lucy Ricardo, and her husband, Dezi Arnaz, my dad, not Ricky Ricardo. There will be humor in the film, but it is a story of the two of them and how they met and what went right with finding the show, what went wrong, their relationship, their love affair.”
