If you’re a Spider-Man fan, you’re going to love this exciting casting news. Not only did we find out last week that Jamie Foxx would be returning as Electro, but yet another familiar face has been announced for the third installment of the Spider-Man franchise.

New Mentor for Spider-Man Revealed for Upcoming Spider-Man 3

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Peter Parker’s new mentor will be none other than the Sorcerer Supreme. Although no one can truly replace Iron Man, Doctor Strange is more than capable of fitting the bill.

An interesting observation has been made about this creative move, especially given the return of Electro, who resides in an alternate universe.

Doctor Strange has an upcoming movie titled Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, directed by the original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi. This film will feature alternative universes, and fans are speculating that this multiverse will also play a role in Spider-Man 3.

If nothing else, it does certainly seem that Marvel and Sony might be up to something. Perhaps a big crossover “spider-verse” storyline?

Doctor Strange Appearing Opposite the Villainous Electro?

With Benedict Cumberbatch reportedly set to reprise his role as Doctor Strange, and Electro being reprised by Jamie Foxx, it seems like the perfect setup for a Doctor Strange vs Electro scenario.

It has been six years since Jamie Foxx starred opposite Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. That film earned $709M at the global box office despite mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. This led the franchise into a reboot for the second time with Far From Home in 2017.

Far From Home ended up amassing an incredible $1.132B at the global box office and has an impressive 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Spider-Man 3 Already Delayed, Will it Be Pushed Back Again?

Unfortunately, the third Spider-Man movie has already been delayed until December 17, 2021. However,  with production starting soon, here’s hoping that the film doesn’t get pushed back yet again. Whatever the case, it seems obvious that Spider-Man 3 will be well worth the wait.

The film is slated to begin filming in Atlanta later this month, but it remains to be seen how Benedict is going to be able to produce his scenes while also working on The Multiverse of Madness, which is set to begin production in London around the same time.

2016 is when Benedict first made his Marvel debut as Doctor Strange, and he has since reprised that role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He also made a brief cameo in Thor: Ragnarok.

The original release date for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness was originally set for May 2021, but it has since been delayed to March 25th, 2022.

In the third Spider-Man installment, fans can expect that Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Tony Revolori and Jacob Batalon to all return for even more Marvel action.
