This past month, Netflix brought a ton of new content to viewers – including plenty of Netflix Originals.
December is looking a little light in comparison to November, but there’s still plenty of new content to check out all month long.
Holiday Offerings Coming to Netflix in December
A ton of holiday-themed shows and movies have joined the streaming service throughout November, but there’s still more coming this month. Let’s check out the rest of Netflix’s holiday offerings coming this month before Christmas arrives.
Scrooge: A Christmas Carol arrives on Netflix on December 2nd. The classic Charles Dickens story has been brought back to life with this supernatural, time-traveling, animated musical adaptation. Expect greedy businessman Ebenezer Scrooge to encounter the ghost of his former business partner, plus the spirits of Christmas past, present and future. This animated spin features the voices of Luke Evans, Olivia Coleman, Jonathan Pryce, and more.
If you have ever been stuck at an airport during the holidays, check out A Storm for Christmas. In this limited series directed by Per-Olav Sørensen, travelers and workers alike find themselves stranded at the airport thanks to extreme weather conditions. The click is counting down to Christmas, but they’re stuck at the airport together instead.
Netflix Original How to Ruin Christmas is back for a third season – although seasons so far have only had three and four episodes. This time, the South African comedy is back for “The Baby Shower,” with previous seasons being titled “The Wedding” and “The Funeral.”
To round out the holiday offerings this month, kids will be happy to see that Boss Baby is back for the holidays in Boss Baby: Christmas Bonus. Guest star George Lopez voices Santa. A courier finds her deliveries sabotaged by a spiteful coworker in Delivery by Christmas, a Polish romantic comedy movie. And I Hate Christmas is an Italian romantic comedy series in which a single woman begins a desperate search to find a partner by Christmas, after lying to her family about having a boyfriend.
You Don’t Have to Go to the Theaters on Christmas Day
I know a lot of people have a tradition of seeing a movie on Christmas Day. This year, Netflix is bringing a new movie to you, so you don’t even have to take off your Christmas pajamas.
You can expect Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical to arrive just in time for Christmas Day. It’s not meant to be a remake of the 1996 film of the same name. Rather, this is an adaptation of the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical Matilda, which was itself based on Roald Dahl’s 1988 novel of the same name. You can still expect it to center on Matilda, the extraordinary and imaginative girl who dares to take a stand against her awful parents and oppressive head teacher. She’s going to change her story with miraculous results!
This time around, Matilda is portrayed by Alisha Weir, and Lashana Lynch is Miss Jennifer Honey. Emma Thompson is headmistress Miss Agatha Trunchbull, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she does with that role. Matilda’s awful parents are still into trashy TV and dodgy money schemes, and will be played by Adrea Riseborough and Stephen Graham.
Notable Netflix Originals Releasing in December
We just recently saw a live-action remake of Pinocchio, starring Tom Hanks as Geppetto. Don’t get confused, though. The Pinocchio coming to Netflix is entirely different. This one comes from the genius mind of Guillermo del Toro, and is a stop-motion animated adaptation of the Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. The film takes on a darker tone than what we’re used to with Disney. This one has a huge voice cast, including the likes of Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, Finn Wolfhard, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, and Ron Perlman.
Emily in Paris has been one of Netflix’s most popular series, and it will be back for a third season on December 21st. Lily Collins returns as Emily Cooper for more drama, more laughs, more love triangles, and of course, more France. Season four of Emily in Paris has also been confirmed, but we don’t have a release date for that season yet.
Fans of The Witcher are finally getting a prequel to the beloved Henry Cavill series, and it arrives on Christmas Day. The Witcher: Blood Origin takes place 1,200 years before the events of the main show, giving audiences the origin story of the first Witcher. Michelle Yeoh (most recently in Everything Everywhere All at Once) stars in the series, along with Francesca Mills, Lenny Henry, Sophia Brown, Dylan Moran, and more.

I am really looking forward to checking out They Cloned Tyrone. It won’t arrive until the end of the month, coming to the streaming service on December 30th. The science fiction comedy stars John Boyega, Jamie Foxx, and Teyonah Parris. The cast is enough to pique my interest! A series of events puts that trio onto the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy that is endangering a Black neighborhood with experiments, kidnapping, and surveillance.
Another Star Wars alum has a new movie heading to Netflix this month, too. Adam Driver stars as Prof. Jack Gladney in White Noise, the newest project from Netflix’s partnership with Oscar-winning director Noah Baumbach. The apocalyptic black comedy is adapted from the 1985 novel of the same name by Don DeLillo. Joining Driver are Greta Gerwig, Raffey Cassidy, Andre Benjamin, Jodie Turner-Smith, Don Cheadle, and more.
And… Everything Else!
Despite feeling “light’ compared to November, there’s still plenty to keep you entertained as we head into winter. With movies, shows, stuff for kids, and a comedy special, there’s a pretty good variety – perfect for anyone who needs to escape from family members for a little while. Hey, maybe Aunt Cindy won’t even notice you’re gone.
So grab a remote, settle in on the couch, and tell Alexa to turn the lights down. Here’s everything we know of that is coming to Netflix in December 2022.
