One of the biggest studios in Hollywood, Warner Bros., has just announced that they will release their entire 2021 film slate on the HBO Max streaming platform.
That means every Warner Bros. movie that is released in theaters (whichever theaters are actually open…) in 2021 will also be released on HBO Max on the same day.
2021 Warner Bros Movies Will Debut on HBO Max Alongside Theater Releases
This includes the biggest Warner Bros. movies expected to debut over the next year, including The Matrix 4, The Suicide Squad, Dune, In the Heights, The Many Saints of Newark, Mortal Kombat, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and Godzilla vs. Kong.
However, Warner Bros. is stressing that this won’t be a permanent arrangement, and they plan to do this only for 2021 in direct response to the ongoing pandemic.
“We’re living in unprecedented times which call for creative solutions, including this new initiative for the Warner Bros. Pictures Group,” said Ann Sarnoff, WarnerMedia chair and CEO, in a statement.
“No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do. We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theaters in the U.S. will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021.”
