On September 3, Amazon Prime Video will release the latest adaptation of one of the most classic fairytales out there. Former Fifth Harmony star Camila Cabello is taking the glass slippers out for a spin in Cinderella, and the official trailer has finally dropped!

Back in 2012, Camila Cabello was still an unknown singer trying to make it big through The X Factor. Her talent was obvious even before she became a pop star, a model, and a role model overnight. Now, she’s branching out even further by stepping into the acting world. Read on to discover what this upcoming film from Amazon has in store, including its star-studded cast.

Camila Cabello’s First Feature Film

Amazon Studios

The upcoming musical romantic comedy starring Camila Cabello is not a part of the Cinderella Story franchise, which only uses the story of Cinderella as a template. It will be more closely aligned with the original story of Cinderella, featuring Billy Porter as the fairy godparent, Idina Menzel as the stepmother, and Maddie Baillio and Charlotte Spencer as the stepsisters.

Other cast members include Pierce Brosnan as King Rowan;  Minnie Driver as Queen Beatrice; John Mulaney, Romesh Ranganathan, and James Corden as footmen and mice; Missy Elliott as Town Crier; Tallulah Greive as Princess Gwen; and Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert.

It’s 2021, so this adaptation will be far more progressive and modern than Cinderella films of the past. For example, Billy Porter’s fairy godparent character will be called “the Fab G.” According to reports, the Fab G does not adhere to gender binaries, and is therefore not a fairy godmother nor a fairy godfather.

This will be 24-year-old Camila Cabello’s first lead acting role. Since the film is a musical, you can bet she will be singing throughout. The soundtrack is set to include original songs by Cabello, and seasoned Broadway vet Idina Menzel will also bring her powerful voice to the film.

Other Ladies Who Starred in Cinderella Films

Every few years, a new star takes their turn playing a role inspired by one of the best rags-to-riches stories of all time. In 2004, Mark Rosman directed A Cinderella Story, starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray. It was a box office hit, grossing $70 million in ticket sales and ultimately becoming a cult classic.

Four years later, Damon Santostefano directed a sequel called Another Cinderella Story. This time, Selena Gomez starred alongside Drew Seeley and Jane Lynch. The film was not as successful as its predecessor.

Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars fame starred in the third installment of the Cinderella Story franchise in 2011. This film was called A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song. Starring in a Cinderella movie was a rite of passage for some of our most successful female stars today. We can only hope that the wildly talented Cabello follows in their (glass-slippered) footsteps.
