Today, Disney+ Day, was the day we finally got a glimpse at Marvel’s Disney+ show Moon Knight. And that means we get a sneak peek at Oscar Isaac’s hero costume.

The First Trailer Dropped

The trailer, a full minute and twenty seconds, shows us Marc Spector and Moon Knight. It also hints at who the announced cast will be in the show. Ethan Hawke narrates a portion of the trailer, but we still have no idea who he plays.

Several questions and theories have been thrown around since the series was announced, and we finally get some of those questions answered. Specifically, what Moon Knight’s suit looks like. The amount of detail we see in just a glance is impressive, and I can’t wait to see more.

The trailer also hints that one of Spector’s core struggles will be present throughout the show. His dissociative identity disorder was a significant element in the comics, and fans wondered if it would be focused on.

What We Know So Far

So far, only three cast members have been announced. Oscar Isaac will be in the title role. Isaac said he had never heard of the character despite being a comic collector before booking the part.

“That’s really what it was. I collected comic books in the 90s, but I had not heard of Moon Knight. It wasn’t on my radar at all, so when it came my way, I didn’t have any baggage on it. I didn’t really know anything. I read the first episode, I spoke with Kevin, I tested some stuff out on my kids…And I just got really excited about the story and about the character and the potential there, and I found there to be a lot of space to try some really out-there stuff.”

Joining him are May Calamawy from Ramy and Ethan Hawke in undisclosed roles. Hawke is rumored to be the series’s main antagonist, which is hinted at in the trailer.

Gaspard Ulliel is rumored to appear as villain Midnight Man, but no official announcements have been made. Midnight Man is a jewel thief who comes up against Moon Knight but ultimately dies in the battle.

Mohamed Diab, who directed and wrote Eshtebak (better known as Clash), will be leading the directing team. Diab directed four of the six episodes of the series. The other two episodes are directed by Synchronic directors Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson.

Development on the show started in 2019 with Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy) as the head writer. In late 2020, rumors began about Oscar Isaac starring, which turned out to be true when Marvel announced it in early 2021.

There’s still no release date, but we do know it’s slated to be out next year. Hopefully, we will get more trailers in the next few months leading to its premiere.

What Are People Saying?

Oscar Isaac said the entire cast and crew have high hopes for the show and hope fans will enjoy the less mainstream characters as much as the Avengers.

“I couldn’t believe my luck and how collaborative the situation was. I’m really excited and hopeful. I don’t know if it’ll work. We took some big swings, ya know! And even Kevin said, ‘I don’t like to count my chickens before they hatch, I’m feeling good, but you never know!’ So hopefully, it’ll look as good as it felt.”

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, said the show is similar to Indiana Jones and will explore Egyptology. He also said that Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight would make his way to MCU films after the show premieres.

Some fans think Blade will be making his return to screen ahead of his Marvel Cinematic Universe in Moon Knight. If you’re like me, you’re excited at this possibility and wouldn’t be mad at this at all. There are also other MCU characters rumored to show up. When searching the series on Google, Sharon Carter even made an appearance in the cast.

We can’t wait for more trailers and will be tuning in when it finally gets released on Disney+.
