Although the much anticipated Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures film “Dune” has been delayed, the wait is going to be well worth it. The movie was original slated to premiere on Dec. 18, 2020, but it is now tentatively expected to debut in theaters on Oct. 1, 2021.

Yes, you read that right. 2021.

While you wait, here’s what we know about the remake of the movie based on the book series by Frank Herbert—and you won’t want to miss the official trailer, shown below.

Who are the Characters in the New Dune Movie?

The new Dune movie features a star-studded cast, including Timothée Chalamet as the young antihero, Paul Atreides. Actor Zendaya is on board as Paul’s love interest, portraying a mysterious woman named Chani with glowing blue eyes.

There are also two warriors, Duncan Idaho and Gurney Halleck, who train Paul in combat, played by none other than Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin. Rebecca Ferguson and Oscar Isaac play the roles of Lady Jessica and Duke Leto Atreides, Paul’s parents.

And that’s not all! Stilgar, known as the leader of the indigenous people called Fremen is played by Javier Bardem, and the role of Baron Vladimir, the leader of House Harkonnen is played by Stellan Skarsgard.

What is the Plot of the New Dune Movie?

The new Dune movie follows the mythic journey of Paul Atreides, who travels to a dangerous planet after his father, Duke Leto Atreides, accepts stewardship of the planet Arrakis.

Arrakis is the only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, known as “spice.” The drug extends human life, accelerates levels of thought and makes faster-than-light travel possible.

Conflict explodes over possession of the planet’s commodity, resulting in Paul leading the local nomadic tribes in a battle to control Arrakis.

Here is the official synopsis of the film:

“A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.”

“As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.”

New Dune Movie Delayed Until 2021

The year 2020 hasn’t been kind to movies thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Even Dune wasn’t able to escape, since it has joined a long list of anticipated films who have had their release dates pushed back.

Dune is now expected to debut on Oct. 1, 2021, which was originally slated for The Batman. As a result, The Batman has a new premiere date of March 4, 2022.

Other movies experiencing a shift in premiere dates include The Flash, which is moving from June 3, 2022 to Nov. 4, 2022 and Shazam 2, which is moving from Nov. 4, 2022 to June 2, 2023.
