If you can even believe it, Dancing With the Stars is getting ready to start its 30th season in just a few short weeks.
Yes, 30 seasons. Do you feel old yet?
Like most seasons of DWTS, fans are eagerly anticipating who will be competing for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy, which judges will be returning, and what pros will be dancing.
There’s just so much to look forward to!
But, while we don’t know the entire cast of competitors just yet, we do know a few people who will be competing this season! Here’s a hint — one is a world champion and the other is a teen sensation. Any guesses?
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming season of DWTS:
Who Will Be Competing?
DWTS will be announcing their full Season 30 cast on September 8, but they decided to share a couple of names just to tide us over until the big reveal next week.
Olympic gymnast Suni Lee and former Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa will be hitting the ballroom this fall! They were announced as cast members on Thursday, August 26.
Suni became a household name during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when she took home the gold medal in the women’s all-around final, as well as a silver in the team final and a bronze in individual uneven bars.
JoJo, who got her start on Dance Moms, has skyrocketed to fame over the past couple of years thanks to her online presence on both YouTube and Instagram. She has millions of followers, has released music, and is already a pretty great dancer in her own right.
JoJo Will Be Making History
And, while the cast announcement made waves, JoJo will actually be making history when she hits the ballroom this fall.
The 18-year-old, who came out in January as a member of the LGBTQ community, will be the first contestant to dance with a same-sex partner.
“When I read the email it was like, ‘Would JoJo prefer to dance with a girl or with a boy?’ and I was like, ‘Wait, that’s an option? Let’s absolutely do it!’ It was a like, ‘Whoa, I’m changing the future’, because I have such a kid demographic,” she explained on Entertainment Tonight on Monday, August 30.
They have not announced who JoJo’s partner will be, but there’s no question it’s a big step forward for the show.
Returning as Host Is….
Tyra Banks inadvertently caused some controversy last year when she replaced longtime hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews for Season 29. While some people were happy with the decision, plenty of fans were peeved about the choice to move away from the beloved hosts.
But, regardless, Tyra will be returning to host Season 30 (sorry to those who were hoping for a Tom and Erin comeback).
In fact, the former host of America’s Next Top Model told reports during the Television Critics Association that she doesn’t let the critics bring her down.
“The world sees me. They don’t understand that there’s a whole thing going on. … The world is angry at the talent,” she shared.
“But there’s a whole control room and things happening and craziness going on, and I’m fed certain things, say certain things that I’m told. But it is what it is.”
And, after taking Season 29 off due to COVID-19, Len Goodman will be back in the judge’s chair this season. Sitting alongside him will be returning hosts Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, as well as Derek Hough.
Rumored Cast Members
Though Suni and JoJo are the only confirmed cast members for Season 30, there are a few names that are rumored to be joining the group.
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore is rumored to be a part of the cast, according to TMZ. Other rumored names include former Bachelor host Chris Harrison, country singer LeAnn Rimes, Hilaria Baldwin, actress Fran Drescher, and Real Housewives of New York star Luann de Lesseps.
Who do you want to see compete on Season 30?
