It’s the end of the road for Jeannie Mai on Dancing With the Stars.

The co-host of The Real just announced on Monday, November 2 that she will no longer be able to compete on the reality show after being hospitalized with a potentially life-threatening condition.

Read her statement below and find out what her exit means for tonight’s show.

Requires Immediate Surgery

The 42-year-old explained in a statement on Good Morning America that her doctors discovered she has an inflammatory condition called epiglottis.

“My doctors discovered a health concern with my throat which requires immediate attention and surgery. I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here.”

She continued, “I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come.”

Epiglottis is a very dangerous condition, as it can cause swelling and block air to the lungs. If left untreated it could cause respiratory failure.

Mai’s DWTS pro partner, Brandon Armstrong, who has definitely become a fan-favorite, explained how heartbroken he is not to be able to continue.

“Guys, we are devastated by the news that we’re gonna have to cut this season short,” he shared.

“But Jeannie’s health does come first. Thank you to all the fans that have helped get us this far and we are praying for a speedy recovery from Jeannie.”

Mai and Armstrong were actually in the bottom two last Monday, along with Cheer star Monica Aldama and Val Chmerkovskiy, but they were ultimately saved by the judges.

Tonight’s Episode

Prior to Mai’s exit, tonight’s episode of DWTS was supposed to include a double elimination.

But, because she was forced to leave, the show revealed on their Instagram page that only one couple will be heading home.

“Jeannie Mai will not be able to continue to compete on #DWTS this season due to a health concern that requires immediate attention. Jeannie has inspired us, along with millions of fans, with her energy and dedication,” the show said in a statement.

“We wish her a full and speedy recovery. Since Jeannie had to withdraw from the competition, tonight’s show will feature the eight remaining couples and a single elimination.”

All of the couples will perform one dance, as well as compete in a relay dance challenge against other couples for extra points.

Who is Left on the Show?

Now that we’ve made it halfway through the competition, here are the couples who are still left competing for the Mirrorball Trophy:

  • Disney star Skai Jackson and her partner, Alan Bersten
  • Rapper Nelly and his partner, Daniella Karagach
  • Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause and her partner, Gleb Savchenko
  • Former Bachelorette Kailyn Bristowe and her partner, Artem Chigvintsev
  • Catfish host Nev Schulman and his partner, Jenna Johnson
  • Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir and his partner, Britt Stewart
  • One Day at a Time star Justina Machado and her partner, Sasha Farber
  • Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean and his partner, Cheryl Burke

While in past seasons it’s usually pretty easy to figure out who’s going to be in the top three at this point in the competition, this year is completely different.

In fact, any of these eight couples could take home the Mirrorball Trophy and anyone could go home tonight. Who do you want to see win Season 29?
