Season 1 of The Mandalorian left the Star Wars fan base on a cliff hanger but provided just enough hints to keep us guessing what comes next. The show hooked us in the beginning with the swashbuckling swagger of Mando, the existence of “The Child”, and a whole universe that many loved to finally see.

With Season 2 just around the corner, theories have been flying left and right about where the story goes from here. At the end of Season 1, The Mandalorian has formed a “Clan of 2” with himself and The Child. His new mission is to find The Child’s own people.

Until then, The Child is a “foundling” which is a Mandalorian in Training.  If that wasn’t enough, in the last two episodes the mysterious Moff Gideon shows up as a Vader wannabe and whips out a black lightsaber.

One thing is for sure with show creator and writer Jon Favreau: nothing that you’ve seen is by accident. There are so many Easter Eggs in every episode that it could put the bunny out of business. He and his team are experts at taking background characters and putting them front and center.

Drawing inspiration from the movies to the 1978 cartoon, everything in the show has a purpose. Knowing that, one might be able to take some guesses at where we are headed next.

Let’s get our Star Wars nerd on and go over the three best fan theories on what happens in Season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Yoda, A Wookie, and The Mandalorian

It seems logical that the next season will focus on the journey to find the planet of The Child, and if so, then Yoda’s people as well. Will it be another swamp that we are expecting, or will it be a planet we’ve never heard of?

One theory goes that The Mandalorian will team up with Wookies and they will help him on this journey. Yoda has a long history with Wookies so it makes sense that they would show up in season 2 and rekindle that connection. A Wookie and a Mandalorian make for an odd couple with great storytelling potential.

The Darksaber

Moff Gideon’s black lightsaber has a history in cannon all its own.  The weapon was originally forged by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi.  Once he died, the Darksaber passed through the generations. This brings in another fan theory.

If the Darksaber is there, what about its opposite as balance is big in the Star Wars Universe. This brings us to Ahsoka Tano, who was once Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice. She carries white lightsabers, the perfect opposite to the Darksaber. Ahsoka is surrounded by her own mysteries, having left the Jedi Order and not a Sith, she remains neutral.

Rosario Dawson has been cast as Ahsoka Tano, so who else from the past can we expect to see in the continued battle of light versus dark? Will someone from The Hutts make an appearance?

The Prophecy

Here, we get really complicated. The Vitae Arc and The Mortis Arc might have all the answers to where the show is ultimately headed. The Vitae Arc basically describes the Skywalker Saga, that a chosen one will be born to bring balance to the force.

The Mortis Arc however refers to one that will guide the chosen one. If Yoda was that person in the first generation, could The Child now be the next in line to guide the future Chosen One in another 500 years? The prophecies state that they will be born at the same time. As The Child is 50 years old, the math checks out.

No matter which direction the show goes, it offers fans a glimpse into the Star Wars Universe outside of the Skywalker realm. By bringing fringe characters to the center stage, The Mandalorian has millions of fans on their feet and craving more.

As the show moves on, pay attention to everything in the background, because nothing is on screen by accident. The next clue could be as simple as who is behind the bar on Tatooine.
