MTV is hitting the nostalgia angle hard with an upcoming reboot of one of their most beloved and celebrated old shows. The cast of the series will highlight super special guests that include Martha Stewart, Ryan Lochte, Jojo Siwa, Big Sean, Scott Disick, and more.
These celebrities aren’t just taking part in the upcoming revival series: They’re inviting the production into their own homes. That’s right; this new series is none other than a reboot of Cribs.
The Glory of ‘Cribs’
The original Cribs aired on MTV in September of 2000 and was developed by Nina L. Díaz, the driving force behind the success of another legendary MTV program: My Super Sweet 16.
Each 30-minute episode of Cribs featured a different celebrity showing off their home. Some would show off their penthouses, while others would give a tour of their sprawling ranch homes. Nothing was off-limits, though; JoJo Levesque, singer of the 2004 hit “Leave (Get Out),” filmed her episode at her uncle’s house. Kim Kardashian, who was still a young twenty-something at the time of her episode, opted to use Kris Jenner’s house in Hidden Hills rather than her place in Beverly Hills.
Regardless of where the episode was filmed, the celebrities always tried to dazzle us with surprises. 50 Cent rented a bunch of Ferraris for his episode, while Tony Hawk impressed early-2000s audiences everywhere with his 100-disc CD changer. Aaron Carter had unforgettable walls in his living room covered in carpet. Redman famously showed off a surprisingly simple lifestyle, featuring his cousin passed out on his humble couch.
Inside Details About the Upcoming Reboot
Martha Stewart, Olympian Ryan Lochte, and several other stars are set to be a part of the Cribs reboot, and we couldn’t be more excited. With the advent of social media sites like Instagram and Twitter, we get to see glimpses of celebrities’ homes all the time in the background of their photos.
That means that this new Cribs series will need to step it up to get audiences engaged. You can bet they’re going to ask the celebrity guests to take us to the most surprising areas of their homes that we might not otherwise get to hear about.
I mean, let’s be honest: Scott Disick is going to have his own episode. MTV knows exactly what they’re doing, and they’re ready to bring us a fresh look at the deliciously over-the-top ways of modern celebrity living.
Other celebrity guests on the lineup include Ashlee Simpson, Evan Ross, Johnny Weir, Christian Siriano, Nick Young, Kathy Griffin, Marsai Martin, Snooki, Jordyn Woods, TJ Lavin, Tinashe, Nico Tortorella, Tia Mowry, and Rick Ross.
MTV recently released a statement about the new show, saying, “[We will] invite viewers for a peek into the every day–and unexpected–lifestyles and rituals of their favorite personalities and families as they welcome us into their homes for a one-of-a-kind exclusive tour.”
Mark your calendars because Cribs will be making its triumphant return in less than one month. Get ready for brand-new, thirty-minute episodes to start dropping on Wednesday, August 11 at 9:30 p.m. ET. In the meantime, watch the trailer here!
