It looks like both Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski are returning to Bayside High!

It’s a little less than a month until the premiere of the Saved By the Bell reboot, and Peacock just dropped a new trailer giving us a sneak peek.

Zack Morris is Now the Governor of California

It was already widely reported that Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s character, Zack Morris, would play a key role in the plot. The once rebellious teenager is now the governor of California, but he’s found himself on the hot seat after closing too many underfunded high schools. In an attempt to fix it, he sends the affected students to the wealthiest schools in the state, including — you guessed it — Bayside High.

However, Gosselaar himself wasn’t initially involved in the reboot series.

As news broke that the reboot was actually happening, Gosselaar admitted that not only was he never approached about joining the cast for a revival, but he didn’t even know about the reboot. He said he read about it in the news “just like everybody else.”

I guess the Mixed-ish star ultimately heard from the powers that be, because he’s finally on board. According to Hollywood Reporter, he will appear in three episodes, and also be credited as a producer.

The trailer also clued us in on Tiffani Thiessen’s return as Kelly Kapowski. And get this: it looks like the high school sweethearts are still together! Kelly and Zack are very much married, and have a son who’s attending Bayside.

Fresh Faces in the Halls of Bayside

Their son, the privileged Mac Morris who rolls up to school in a Corvette, will be played by Mitchell Hoog. We also see Champions alum Josie Totah starring as Lexi, a pretty and popular cheerleader. Totah is also credited as a producer.

“Why is everybody so rich?” one of the new kids questions, walking into school for the first time. It’s actually Daisy, a sophomore attending Bayside for the first time after her school was shut down. She’s played by Haskiri Velazquez, whose other credits include Blue Bloods, The Birch, and The 40-Year-Old Version.

As for other Saved By the Bell OGs, you’ll find a couple more familiar faces. Mario Lopez will walk the halls of Bayside once again as A.C. Slater, who’s now Bayside High’s gym teacher. Elizabeth Berkley is also returning as Jessie Spano, an employee at the school.

Lisa Turtle and Screech Won’t Be Returning to Bayside

Don’t expect to see Lisa Turtle or Screech at Bayside, though. It appears that neither Dustin Diamond or Lark Voorhies will be part of the reboot.

Lark Voorhies, who played fashionable gossip queen Lisa Turtle, appeared on The Dr. Oz Show to say she felt “slighted and hurt” when she wasn’t asked to be part of the reboot. She went on to say, “Family isn’t kept complete without its lead.”

Dustin Diamond, aka Screech, also won’t be walking the halls of Bayside in the reboot. He wasn’t very happy about his lack of invite, either, calling Screech’s absence a “missed opportunity.”

He told TMZ that he was one of the defining stars of the original show, stating he “was in literally, like every episode. Out of all the cast members, I was in the majority, the most.”

Regardless, he’s likely somewhat of a liability these days. Prior to this, Diamond was making plenty of scandalous headlines for numerous arrests, and even released his own sex tape in 2006.

Diamond also released a shocking book in 2009 titled Behind the Bell, in which he detailed sex and drugs on set of the series. Plenty of his former cast members spoke out, slamming the book and labeling his claims as false.
