‘Smallville’: Where Are They Now?

The WB | The CW | Warner Bros. | Tollin/Robbins Productions | Millar Gough Ink | DC Comics

It’s been over 20 years since Smallville first graced television screens. It’s also been more than a decade since the finale aired. With the Arrowverse only having two shows renewed for another season, I’ve been wondering what became of the original DC show’s actors.

I looked up sixteen members of the main cast from the ten-year run and found out what they are doing now. Keep reading to see how many have returned to DC shows and movies since their time on Smallville.

Sam Witwer: Davis Bloome

It would be hard to miss Sam Witwer’s works today because of how diverse his credits are. After his one-season stint on Smallville, he went on to star in Being Human and portrayed Agent Liberty in Supergirl.

He has also voiced Darth Maul in several Star Wars projects, from video games to movies. He also voiced Rodian in the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett, Starkiller and Emperor Palpatine in several Star Wars video games, and Tenavik in Star Trek Online.

Outside of acting, he is The Crashtones’s front-man. Their last album, Revenge of the Crashtones, came out in 2019.

Justin Hartley: Oliver Queen

Before becoming Oliver Queen for Smallville, Hartley was initially cast as Arthur Curry in the unaired Aquaman television pilot. Thankfully, that never came to fruition because we got him as Green Arrow for five years after that.

After Smallville, he went on to star in Emily Owens, M.D. in 2012-2013; The Young and the Restless from 2014 to 2016; and This Is Us as Kevin Pearson. He also had a recurring role in Revenge and Mistresses. He also voiced Superman in Injustice (2021) and played Ty Swindle in A Bad Moms Christmas (2017).

In his personal life, Hartley married Sofia Pernas, a costar from The Young and the Restless, in 2021. Before marrying her, he had been married to Lindsay Korman and then Chrishell Stause.

Cassidy Freeman: Tess Mercer

Not to be confused with his twin brother Shawn (who was in X-Men), Aaron has had a very diverse acting career. After Smallville, Ashmore had recurring roles in In Plain Sight, Lost Girl, and Warehouse 13.

Other notable roles Ashmore has had include John Jaqobis in Killjoys and Duncan Locke in Locke & Key. He’s set to appear in the upcoming show, SkyMed.

Aaron married Zoë Kate in 2014 and has two daughters with her. He’s also a Star Trek fan but has somehow not been in any Star Trek projects yet. I think it’s time for that change!

Outside of acting for film and television, Ackles has had voice roles in four video games. He also directed six episodes of Supernatural and one of Walker (which stars his Supernatural brother, Jared Padalecki).

Mack was arrested on charges related to NXIVM. She pleaded guilty to two separate charges (racketeering and racketeering conspiracy) and started her three-year sentence on September 13, 2021.

Kristin Kreuk: Lana Lang

Shortly after Smallville ended, Kristin went on to star as Catherine in The CW’s Beauty and the Beast. After that show ended, she also went on to star in CBC’s Burden of Truth. She’s also recently appeared in a few episodes of Amazon Prime’s Reacher.

Kreuk has kept her personal life somewhat private, but from 2017 to 2018, she was publicly linked to NXIVM along with Allison Mack. After the leader of NXIVM was arrested, Kreuk went on record to say she left the group in 2013 and had not been involved in anything illegal. Those claims have since been backed up by another actress who helped expose the cult.
