As I always do, I’ve been wondering what would happen if the vampires, witches, and humans from The Vampire Diaries went to Hogwarts instead of living in Mystic Falls. While a few were harder to sort, some were really easy. And you’re going to be shocked where a few ended up!
Since there are so many characters, the Mikaelsons and other characters from The Originals and Legacies won’t be included because they deserve their own posts.
As a refresher, Ravenclaw house is for the wise and creative students, while Hufflepuffs are hard-working and loyal. Gryffindors are brave and reckless, and Slytherins are ambitious and sly. Let’s get to sorting!
Vicki Donovan: Slytherin
Starting off easy, Vicki would have quickly been sorted into Slytherin. Her actions before her death in season one were very self-serving. Vicki wasn’t too worried about hurting people to get what she wanted until she was stuck on the Other Side, watching everyone she loved.
At Hogwarts, Vicki would have struggled a bit in her classes but pulled through in the end. She’d also be cheering her friends on during Quidditch but wouldn’t play. After Hogwarts, she’d get a desk job at the Ministry and settle down with a wizard early in her life.
Carol Lockwood: Hufflepuff
We didn’t see much of Carol while she was alive, but what we did see told me a lot about what she values. She was always trying to help her son and husband, even when they were hard to deal with. Carol did so much to try and protect Tyler after her husband’s death, even going so far as to plead with Klaus seconds before her death.
Carol would have excelled at Charms and Transfiguration while at Hogwarts. While she wouldn’t have played Quidditch, she would have been in the stands at every game. Carol would have also been Prefect her fifth and sixth years and Head Girl her seventh year. After Hogwarts, she would have worked her way up to high-level clearance in the Ministry.
Meredith Fell: Ravenclaw
Ironic that the first doctor Alaric fell for would be in Ravenclaw. Meredith was brilliant, which isn’t just a Ravenclaw trait, but she was also creative in the ways to help her patients. And yes, I’m calling cheating by using vampire blood creative. That’s why I think she’d be in Ravenclaw.
While at Hogwarts, Meredith would have done exceptionally well in Defense Against the Dark Arts. She would have spent most of her time helping in the Hospital Wing, working on healing spells and potions. After Hogwarts, she would have quickly been hired at St. Mungo’s.
Lily Salvatore: Hufflepuff
I almost put Lily in Slytherin because of her actions. However, when looking at her motivations, they weren’t self-serving; it was to protect her “family” of heretics. Everything she did was to protect them, even when they came up against her own sons.
Lily would have excelled in Care of Magical Creatures and Transfiguration while in school. I also think she would have been a Chaser in Quidditch. Lily would also master becoming an Animagus shortly after finishing school (a red fox). She’d also work at a wizard orphanage as a caretaker.
Sybil is a Slytherin through and through. After becoming a Siren, she grew to resent life but was doing anything to get what she wanted. She constantly put other people in danger to get ahead, even going so far as threatening a whole class of students.
At Hogwarts, Sybil would have done well in Charms class, but her interests were drawn to hexes and dark magic. She’d also be Seeker her sixth and seventh year for her house’s Quidditch team. After Hogwarts, she would have tried to work her way up at the Ministry, but her dark magic habits would have her in Azkaban by her mid-twenties.
Liv Parker: Hufflepuff
Liv was a little hard to place because she was a bit reckless at times. But, when looking deeper into her story, every time she put herself at risk, it was for someone she loved. She even sacrificed herself so Tyler could heal quickly after Kai blew up Jo and Alaric’s wedding.
While in school, Liv would do amazing in Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts. I can also see her being a Hufflepuff Chaser her second through seventh years (it’s how she met Tyler). After Hogwarts, I think she’d have worked in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, but not as an Auror.
John Gilbert: Hufflepuff
Much like Lily Salvatore, John did quite a few heinous things, but they were always for his family and close friends. While some of what he did was to get what he wanted, most was to protect Elena and Jeremy or keep his promise to Isobel.
John’s best class was by far History of Magic, but he would also excel in Arithmancy. While he wasn’t a good Quidditch player compared to some others on this list, he’d be a backup Beater for his house team for his last three years. After Hogwarts, he’d work in the Department of Magical Artefacts.
Valerie Tulle: Ravenclaw
Valerie just radiates Ravenclaw energy. It’s hard to place, but the way she holds herself, speaks, and acts remind me of a stereotypical Ravenclaw. She also was always listening and learning even when you didn’t know she was around.
At Hogwarts, Valerie’s best subjects were Transfiguration and Divination. She’d also be a Beater for Ravenclaw’s Quidditch team starting in her third year. That’s also how she met her school sweetheart Stefan. After Hogwarts, I think she’d end up staying unmarried and working as a Divination professor at a wizarding school.
Kai Parker: Slytherin
I think it’s unanimous that Kai Parker is the best example of a Slytherin gone evil. He’s always looking out for himself – his actions in Legacies reaffirms this. He was even willing to die if it meant killing everyone in his family at one point before the Merge in season six.
Kai would have done well in Transfiguration, and he’d also become an undocumented Animagus (a crow) at 16. He’d use this as an advantage in his adult life. He’d also be a Beater as a way to hurt students without getting in trouble.
After Hogwarts, he’d be a criminal in both the wizarding and Muggle worlds. He’d manage to evade Aurors around the world for about ten years before he’s cornered. Then, after managing to escape Azkaban for a year, he’d be killed in battle by Alaric as justice for killing Jo.
Jenna Sommers: Hufflepuff
Jenna would just fit in perfectly in Hufflepuff. She’s hard-working, loyal to her family until she reaches her breaking point, and extremely patient with Elena and Jeremy. She has all the Hufflepuff traits in every moment up to her death.
Jenna’s best subject was Charms in school, but she also really enjoyed Care of Magical Creatures. She’d also be at every Quidditch game cheering on her house and friends. After Hogwarts, she’d work a desk job in the Ministry and live the happy, quiet life she deserved in The Vampire Diaries.
Matt Donovan: Hufflepuff
Though most people would expect Matt to be a Muggle, I don’t think that would be the case. Matt is hard-working (as we saw in his training to be a police officer) and loyal (even when he kept getting his neck snapped). I still don’t get why people don’t like him when he’s a great friend that would be immediately sorted into Hufflepuff.
At Hogwarts, Matt’s best class was Flying, which is no surprise because he’s the youngest Seeker from the house, starting in his third year. He’d also do well in Care of Magical Creatures and Defense Against the Dark Arts. After Hogwarts, Matt would become an Auror but still plays Quidditch with his friends when they’re able.
Enzo St. John: Slytherin
Before Enzo met Bonnie, all he cared about was getting something he wanted or getting revenge. And while he lost those motivations after falling for Bonnie, he still had that Slytherin edge to him. I honestly don’t think he’d fit in any other house.
Enzo would have coasted in all of his classes, but he’d spend more time in detention than anywhere else until he met Bonnie during his fifth year. After meeting her, he turns his life around and joins the Quidditch team as a Chaser. After Hogwarts, he’d work in the Department of Magical Artefacts.
Liz Forbes: Gryffindor
Of course, the woman who was willing to befriend and go up against vampires, werewolves, and witches would be in Gryffindor. Liz is courageous in almost every instance, even when the odds are stacked against her. And though she became less reckless as time went on, she still had that in her to the end.
At Hogwarts, Liz would have been the top Defense Against the Dark Arts student in her year. She’d also do well in Divination and would be the Keeper for her house’s Quidditch team for her third through seventh years. And no surprise for anyone, she’d be one of the best Aurors.
Alaric Saltzman: Gryffindor
Alaric Saltzman is one of the most reckless characters I’ve ever seen in The Vampire Diaries universe. He rushes headfirst into all things in both series he’s been in. I mean, he even went after a vampire multiple times despite being a novice vampire hunter in the early seasons.
Much like Liz, Alaric would do well in Defense Against the Dark Arts and Quidditch (he’s a Beater), but he also gets in a lot of trouble for sneaking into restricted areas of the castle. After Hogwarts, he’d also be an Auror before meeting Jo and settling down to help with her potions shop on Diagon Alley.
Tyler Lockwood: Gryffindor
While we’re on the topic of reckless Gryffindors, let’s talk about Tyler Lockwood. And while I’m giving him a slight break because his werewolf side gives him a short temper, he has most of the other Gryffindor traits. He’s brave, reckless, and determined beyond belief.
Tyler’s best class would be Transfiguration, and he’d also be one of the best Beaters Gryffindor has ever seen. But, he’d get in many fights off the pitch resulting in him being in detention at least twice a week. However, after Hogwarts, he’d be an Auror before being sent to a desk job in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement with Liv.
Jeremy Gilbert: Hufflepuff
On the opposite side of the same coin, Jeremy has many of the same traits as Tyler, but his motivations lie elsewhere. As he matures, we can see how hard-working he truly is. And he’s also extremely loyal – he fought against his Hunter nature to kill his sister because he loves her.
At Hogwarts, Jeremy would have struggled in classes for his first three years before getting his act together. Then, he’d do well in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Jeremy would also be a Seeker his fifth through seventh year. After Hogwarts, he’d be an Auror and work closely with Alaric.
Katherine Pierce: Slytherin
Much like Kai, Katherine was immediately sorted into Slytherin. She was always doing whatever she could to save her own skin – even killing herself to become a vampire and escape Klaus. Katherine even body-snatched Elena to get more time with her daughter and Stefan.
Katherine would excel in Transfiguration and become an Animagus at 18 (she doesn’t register with the Ministry). She’d also be a Chaser for her third through seventh years. After Hogwarts, she’d work in the Ministry but would be sent to Azkaban after getting caught practicing dark magic on Muggles in her early thirties.
Stefan Salvatore: Hufflepuff
Look at Stefan (except when his humanity is turned off) and tell me he’s not a Hufflepuff. When Stefan wasn’t full-on Ripper, he was putting others before him until he’d finally had enough. And even then, he put on a happy face to save the feelings of those closest to him. I mean, he even sacrificed himself so his brother could live out his life with the girl he loved.
Stefan’s best class is Care of Magical Creatures because it’s calming for him. It’s also the only class Damon never did well in. He’s also a Chaser for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team starting in his fourth year. After Hogwarts, Stefan would be a Magizoologist. He’d also marry Caroline and have a long, happy marriage (unlike what happened in The Vampire Diaries).
Damon Salvatore: Slytherin
Speaking of Stefan’s brother, Damon is definitely a Slytherin. Before Elena, he was always quick to switch off his humanity. Even after falling for Elena, he constantly struggled with not putting himself first in most situations.
Damon’s best subjects would be Potions and Transfiguration. I think he’d manage becoming an Animagus (a raven) as well, but not until after he’d married Elena. He’d also have the biggest rivalry with Stefan in Quidditch as they’re both Chasers. After Hogwarts, he’d be a Potioneer and marry Elena a week after finishing her seventh year.
Elena Gilbert: Gryffindor
As much as I wish Elena could be a Muggle, I doubt she would be in the wizarding world. So, I think the Sorting Hat would put her reckless personality straight into Gryffindor. I’ll concede she was braver than most would be in her shoes, but that bravery could have gotten her killed time and time again.
At Hogwarts, Elena’s best class is Charms. She also wouldn’t play Quidditch, but she’s Gryffindor and Damon’s biggest cheerleader. After Hogwarts, she’d quickly marry Damon, and she’d help him with potion-making and raising a large family. She’d also join him in becoming an Animagus and would be a hummingbird.
Bonnie Bennett: Hufflepuff
Bonnie was flipping between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff before I finally settled on Hufflepuff. Though she has many Ravenclaw traits, her motivations were always to protect and help her friends and family. She even went through a ton of pain as the anchor to the Other Side to help save her friends.
Bonnie would be the top student in all of her classes in her year. She’d also be Prefect her fifth and sixth year and Head Girl her seventh, with her time being split between class, sleeping, the library, and helping in the Hospital Wing. After Hogwarts, she’d become a traveling author and marry Enzo in her late twenties.
Caroline Forbes: Slytherin
“Looks like a cinnamon roll, would kill you.” Perfect words to describe a certain type of Slytherin. The reasoning behind her house is evident in the first few seasons, but we see hints of her cunning side throughout the series. Even when her humanity was off, she managed to save her own skin without being reckless. It just sounds like she’d be a fantastic addition to Slytherin.
At Hogwarts, Caroline would try her best in all of her classes, but her favorite and best is Charms. She’d also be the Seeker for the Slytherin team starting in her fourth year. Caroline would date Klaus during her fifth and sixth years but start dating Stefan her seventh year during school. After Hogwarts, she’d work for the Daily Prophet. And she’d have a long and happy life with Stefan.
