It seems like Tyra Banks just spilled the tea on a new Coyote Ugly sequel or reboot, 20 years after the original premiered.

Banks made the announcement during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Wednesday. She was there to discuss her new gig as host of Dancing With the Stars.

The host made headlines earlier this week after announcing the wrong pair up for elimination. Banks chalked up the mix-up to “the craziness of live TV.”

Speaking of Dancing…

During the appearance, Clarkson congratulated Banks on not only hosting, but executive producing DWTS. Banks said she was excited to bring in some fresh concepts and ideas to the show, like her obsession with TikTok.

“Oh, we gonna be TikToking on Dancing With the Stars,” the host said.

Then Clarkson, who’s a self-admitted huge fan of the original Coyote Ugly movie, pivoted to Banks’ own dancing chops, which were on display in the film. This turned out to be a perfect segue.

“I literally was supposed to be on a conference call today about bringing Coyote Ugly back.”

Banks, who played bartender Zöe in the movie, and Maria Bello, who played bar owner Lil, have been working to bring the project—which could be a film or a TV series—to fruition.

“We were supposed to be on a call today, and I’m talking to you and I can’t talk to them,” Banks said. “Yes, we are talking about trying to do Coyote Ugly 2 or a series.”

The original movie starred Banks and Bello alongside Bridget Moynahan, Piper Perabo, Izabella Miko, Melanie Lynskey, Adam Gracia, and John Goodman. It was released in 2000, and grossed more than $110 million at the box office.

Tyra’s Coyote Ugly Audition

Then Clarkson asked if Banks had to show off her moves during her audition for the movie.

“For my audition for Coyote Ugly, they asked me what song I wanted to play,” she said. “I was like, ‘OK, I’ll take Prince’s ‘Kiss.” …They push play. I’m in this huge hotel room, all these casting people lined up looking at me. And I’m dancing. I’m head whipping.”

She continued, “The whole song I ended up dancing. Then after I’m out of breath, and then they all just started laughing. They’re like, ‘We are so sorry, but we were enjoying that so much, we kept the music going.'”

Banks said that she was exhausted and sweating, and quite annoyed, but she got the part, so it all worked out in the end.

But Does She Still Have the Moves?

Banks said she doesn’t understand how easily the DWTS contestants can pick up their choreography, saying she can “freestyle her a** off” but that’s about it.

“I feel like I do have the dance moves, as long as no one choreographs me and tells me exactly how to dance,” Banks responded. “I’m kind of tempted to ask [co-host Derek Hough] to choreograph like 16 counts for me to see if I can do it.”

So she took the opportunity to do so on air.

“I’m asking you now, Derek. Can you choreograph that for me?”
